  • Afternoon all!

Trying hard this weekend...had an afternoon out yesterday which was pricier than normal so we are trying to be frugal for rest of month (Yorkshire Belle - can certainly identify with your too much month for money comment!!:rotfl:)

    This weekends efforts:

    * Lots of washing at 30'c
    * Line drying inbetween (unforecast!) showers!
    * Cook rice etc for lunches tomorrow
    * Check on-line banking :eek:
    * Start budget for October
    * Keep heating off (heading for an Indian Dummer this week apparently so thats good!)

    Miss P
    xx

    Hi all

I’m late posting today, but been quite busy this morning and have got a busy afternoon and evening ahead

    My list for today:
    • Check bank, but not expecting any change
    • All food from stores
    • Drop/pick up DD2 to/from work
    • More HC
    • Start an MSE diary! :D - done

I’m sure there should be more, but can’t think what! I need to press on with my MSE and non-MSE tasks otherwise the day will be gone before I get anything done!!

    Hello All
Newbie here - still feel sick at the mess I have let us slide into but at least I'm doing something about it.
Yesterday was another NSD for me - really good/unusual because normally I would have gone out in the car to the nearest supermarket (20+mile round trip) bought a paper and a few bits etc - so would have been at least a £15-£20. Today is also going to be a NSD so I reckon if I can keep this up I'll be well on the way to making a big hole in our ODraft by the next pay day (25th-Gulp)
Made Pizza last night and instead of chcucking away spare dough have made Naan/Flat breads so can eat tonight and squirrel some away in Freezer.

Hi & welcome bowlofsoup - cool name by the way! - wow impressive NSDs. I find these so hard I gave up. Now I just try to save & really think about what I buy. I did actually do one on Friday - started work late so that kept me out of harms way & given how busy we are today I suspect I'll get by today without spending a bean as well :T

I've now been debt free for almost a year. I found this thread about a year & a half before I was debt free & have been posting every since. Everyone is really lovely, friendly & supportive. I honestly think posting on here daily helped me keep up the momento through the hard slog & I got so many useful tips on here as well! I'm sure you'll be very happy here :)

    Today:
    • last trip to the tip
    • replied to a couple of ppl from freecycle about bits we're giving away
    • listed 3 things on ebay - 2 more to go
    • packed up majority bedroom stuff & lounge
    • completely packed & cleaned spare room
    • made banana & mango (purree) smoothie for breakfast to use up bananas & mango - OMG it was delish, milk, total, banana & 3 desert spoons of mango purree mmmmmmmm :T
    I will also:
    • make rice for lunches during the week (thanks for the suggestion Miss P :A)
    • make chineese chicken & jacket spuds for tea using up any veg that needs eating
    • list another 2 things on ebay
    • line dry washing & another laod @ 30
    • check through fridge & see what needs using up
    • go to ex-mils to collect some boxes & see if she has a few bin bags I could have rather than buying some
    • go for a walk with BFF for exercise & a good ole gossip
    • do wii fit later
    • wrap up ebay sale to post tomorrow
ok I think that's all for today! happy sunday to y'all I hope its more relaxing than mine! :D

  • Never posted on this board before but really need to be debt-free and looking at what I do/spend on a daily basis!!
    Soo this weekend..
Friday I was in university so not a good day for being a DFW since we arent allowed to eat our own food in the canteen areas!! Just got a sarnie and a cuppa so not tooo bad. But then decided to go shopping and bought a new dress and bag for a work charity event last night. Great dress and will def wear it out this autumn/winter!! Went into poundland and discovered that should probably go there more often for toiletries.. I thought wilkinsons was the cheapest!
Saturday went out with mam, she drove so no petrol for me! Didnt spend anything at the next sale although could have bought a load of stuff for neices and nephews!! Then the charity do with work folks, got a lift there and back with a collegue so saved a fortune on taxis, we drank in rounds and it was really cheap so that was good. Bought raffle tickets but no prizes for me!
Today I have checked online banking, done washing and hung it on the line instead of using the drier, scanned loads of barcodes for musicmagpie.com (total £34, not bad!) looked at sites to take unwanted bags of clothes (clothes for cash) need to look at competitions and surveys (i dont half get bored of doing them but every little bit counts!) and tonight visiting friends - going to take the car in order to save money on taxis/drinking and we are sharing a takeaway. yum yum. all in all today has been the best day really.

Hope this post was okay!!! x

Oh perni - I can't remember how many days I've spent sitting on the sofa doing nothing but watch 24! :o So good though! :p

Isn't it just! Is it wrong I may, just *may* have a little crush on Jack Bauer?! :o

    Hello everyone

Today's list is more a case of what I have done rather than will do as I'm posting so late!

    • Used freebie deodorant
    • Charged phone via pc
    • Food from stores
    • Dinner from meal plan
    • Check for surveys
    • Checked online banking & that there is enough in the joint account to cover the sky bill which annoyingly comes out at the end of the month rather than when the other bills do!
    • Checked out this week's flylady thread & blitzed downstairs
    • Taken bunny over to sister's house for the week
    • Finish packing
We're all set to go now really, so I'm off to read up a couple more threads & then I am off to bed as we leave at 2am in order to be there for our 6.25am flight. I cannot wait! Have a great, moneysaving week everyone, I expect to see you all on the wagon still when I return! xx

Hi BowlofSoup - thanks for popping in to my DFW diary - nice to see you and good luck with your debt busting!

The few small things I've done today...

    • Had a bagel that's been in the freezer for about a year for lunch
    • Put the washing away
    • Had a LSD (£4)
    • Updated diary
    • Used sample moisturiser to stop me buying a new one
    • Not worn makeup all weekend as I haven't gone anywhere apart from T*scos (saving on expensive foundation)
    • Checked bank
    • Not had the heating on - nice and warm here this afternoon
    • Put October's grocery budget on OS challenge thread (£30 a week)
Hope evryone is raring to go for the new week? (I'm not!)
    January grocery spending - £82.73/ £120
  • Just a quick point - be very careful if you're reheating rice - this from the NHS website:

Can reheating rice cause food poisoning?

Yes. You can get food poisoning from eating reheated rice. However, it's not the reheating that causes the problem but the way the rice has been stored before it was reheated.
How does reheated rice cause food poisoning?

Uncooked rice can contain spores of Bacillus cereus, a bacterium that can cause food poisoning. When the rice is cooked, the spores can survive.
If the rice is left standing at room temperature, the spores can grow into bacteria. These bacteria will multiply and may produce toxins (poisons) that cause vomiting or diarrhoea.
The longer cooked rice is left at room temperature, the more likely it is that the bacteria or toxins could make the rice unsafe to eat.
    Tips on serving rice safely

    • Ideally, serve rice as soon as it has been cooked.
    • If that isn't possible, cool the rice as quickly as possible (ideally within one hour).
    • Keep rice in the fridge for no more than one day until reheating.
    • When you reheat any rice, always check that the dish is steaming hot all the way through.
    • Do not reheat rice more than once.
