Yes, just ignore them. You did the right thing by stopping for that time, so don't be intimidated by the low-lifes at Parking Eye.

Finally it's not a FINE, it's an invoice!
What part of "A whop bop-a-lu a whop bam boo" don't you understand?

    Hello
I've just joined to get some advice. I was ill on the motorway and consequently spent 4 hours 19 mins at a services station being unwell. I got a notice from Parking eye with a £60 fine if I paid by the 28th sept. I appealed and they didnt bother replying just resent the notice again still with 28th date, so I have no time to write gain or I will have to pay £120.
I have read the above but am nervous about ignoring them.
Just need some support please, to ignore them......help please.

Good old UN-Welcome Break and their 'partner' Parking Spy at it again. As you discovered, they don't care about you, you being ill or having no choice to spend a few hours at a service station while you feel well enough to drive again or someone comes to drive you home.

First lesson learned, there is no appeal process, so don't bother writing again because no one looks at it, you are not dealing with reasonable people who will understand your predicament and relent. They just want your money and Welcome Break don't care, because they probably get a kick-back from Parking Spy.

As everyone says, just ignore them otherwise they will see you as someone who potentially might give-in and pay them and therefore will keep at you longer harassing you for money.

If you want to write to someone, write to paul.comer@welcomebreak.co.uk and tell him what you think of their 'partnership' with Parking Eye. He probably will ignore you too, which will tell you one thing, he doesn't care either!

Paul Comer of welcome break is as much use as a chocolate teapot!! I have had a long email acquaintance with him. He believes Parking Spy are a wonderful company.
I wouldn't waste my time emailing or writing to him, just don't spend your money at welcome break again.

You can see what he thinks in this thread!

Even if you do pay Parking Spy, they will only send you letters demanding more money citing "late" payment.

Easiest way is to ignore Parking Spy and ignore the retail park whom employed them
  • Hi, another newbie here. I got a letter from Parking Eye today saying I overstayed in a car park in Rugby. There's 2 businesses on this site, a Tesco Express & a Travelodge. I was in the Travelodge overnight & I don't think it's unreasonable that I entered the car park at 20:41 & left the next day at 09:00 do you? The Travelodge web site clearly states free parking and the receptionist never suggested I couldn't park outside. I even purchased some items from Tesco Express in the morning before I left. I was a bit concerned at first and was all ready to call Parking Eye tomorrow and have a row with them. Having read many posts on this forum, I am now inclined to ignore the letter. I am wondering, however, if I should just give the Travelodge a call to see if they have encountered this issue with other customers. Thoughts?

Of course give Travelodge a call - but COMPLAIN!

Obviously you can ignore the fake PCN as it's not a real fine, it's a scam. But it's a scam that Travelodge are allowing to be aimed at their customers, and you were wondering whether to just tentatively ring up and enquire if anyone else has had the same 'problem'!

Seriously, this is a good reason to get angry and tell Travelodge you will be using Premier Inn (or other rival) next time.
PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

  • Hi Coupon-mad,

I gave the Travelodge a call and the guy I spoke to said the receptionist should have entered my car details in to the system & it would then negate the issue of a PCN. I said that she never asked me how I'd travelled & I didn't think anything of it as I've stayed at loads of Travelodges and just park in their car parks. He then asked for the PCN number and said he'd get it cancelled. I figured there was no harm in that as I ain't paying it anyway so I gave him the number.

I stressed that they need to make it clear that cars need to be registered with them since it's not obvious there's parking restrictions.

I'll see if I hear from Parking Eye again!

    Cheers.

You will receive a letter saying "after careful consideration your appeal has been rejected".

or Parking Spy will "cancel" the invoice and charge Travelodge a lovely £40 fee for doing so.

....and more fool them if they pay it.
I would not automatically assume that Travelodge have contracted PE. It's more likely to be the owner of the land on which the Travelodge and other facilities/services are sited.
  • I had a letter from PE yesterday - which left me absolutely livid!
Apart from anything else it was telling me that I could benefit from a reduced sum if I pay by today! All part of the scam I suppose.
Having read various posts I'm happy to go for the ignoring route although with slight trepidation. One thing that struck me is that the letters are not sent by recorded delivery or such so there isn't actually any proof you ever received them anyway - thus you can presumably ignore them and then plead ignorance if it comes to that? What is the incidence of phone calls from debt collectors?
    Thanks
