apply online as its the same decisions, she will get a new account number anyway
Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.

    No it's not.

Apply online and it's credit checked and every chance as a second account the new one offered will be the Basic.

The correct process is to change the account type, the number is unchanged and no credit checks are made.

Although I was a little disturbed yesterday to open a general 'PPI complaint' form that had been sent to the branch regarding a loan I did in 2008.

Apparently I'd told them that having PPI would help them get the loan which is lies. I almost rang them but thought better of it.

As a customer, I'd be happy if conversations in branch were recorded (openly, with agreement, and with the chance for all parties to have a copy, of course). It seems odd to me that this is considered routine for telephone calls but not in person. Perhaps "I/you said/didn't say that!" accusations are often about bad memory or misinterpretation rather than maliciousness - and the ambulance chasing PPI solicitors are surely good at convincing someone to recall something which didn't quite happen. Everyone agrees that suggestive questions should never be asked to child witnesses but they forget how effective they are on adults.

Would staff be receptive to branch recordings, or is it likely to lead to workers being castigated for not selling hard enough rather than as an aid to improving communication?

I'd not be receptive to it, no. It won't happen though for a myriad of reasons though.

I don't blame them really though, if I thought I could get a few quid for filling a form in I probably would.

Isn't that true of all Visa Debit cards issued on basic accounts?

nope - the Visa Debit I have on my Barclays Cash Card account works on trains (have used it successfully to buy a ticket on train) we dont use Pay @ Pump though so cant comment on that.

  • So they can give you a upgraded current account, but not the free current account. Sounds fishy to me, either

Try to apply online to them to cut their sales bull

Or tell them no, I'd like the free standard current account please else I'm taking all my money out and going to the bank down the road.

I'd suggest Lloyds TSB classic account.
