Single holiday..

OK I'm single and realised yesterday I have 7 hol days left to use by nye..

I'd love to escape the UK at xmas but where to go on your own without having to pay single room charges ... Anyone got any ideas?

I like snow and sun so quite happy anywhere, Would be happy long haul or short haul...

Where do single people holiday?? no one I know wants to or can get away at Xmas/New Year :( one of the downfalls of being single and old I guess....

  • Try a 7 day Nile cruise. Some tour companies do a limited number of single occupancy rooms at single person rate. I did this last year and got a huge great double room to myself.

I recently browsed the 'Gambia experience' website, and found that the price per person is similar for one person as for two. I didn't look around Christmas, but a package including flights and a week at the excellent Kairaba hotel was about 550 pounds in October.

Of course, it might not be the kind of holiday that would appeal to a single person, but that's another issue.

What's your budget and where would you be flying from?

Anything you fancy here? There are still single supplements, b ut the prices are good value for money as it appears most meals are included. The cheaper ones are by coach, but some are by air.

    The Andalucia one looks nice.

'Gambia experience' looks lush... Isn' that where that woman got kidnapped and the man killed last week?

Oh the Nile I could be like agatha christie, murder on the nile...............

I've worked out as i'm very lucky and work 9-5, mon-fri work closes for xmas so no hol days needed I can take off 22nd Dec to 9th Dec off! returning to work 10th Jan my gosh thats a long holiday...

Budget cheap as possible, I like a bargin but max max £1000 that woud have to be all in and 10*!! any London airport..... I don't mind where I stay, stayed in some right dives before and showered with a hose pipe!!

Top of my list somewhere single traveller friendly and safe as I'll be on my own, Not that anywhere is "safe" you have to keep your wits about you wherever you are.....

  • If you like Turkey, check out the all inclusive hotels in Antalya and Alanya, many do not charge single supplements during the winter and being south the weather is still reasonable (though not comparable to Gambia!). Direct Line holidays is a good place to start, but have a good look round because they will try to beat other companies' prices if you can give them the reference to prove the price is genuine.

I have a friend who recently got back from a week in The Gambia by himself and he had a great time. The only reasons he went were a) it was cheap b) it was somewhere "different". The prices are sure to be higher for Xmas, you have to expect that, but it's still a relatively cheap destination.

A "huge great double room" on a Nile cruiser? When did the Queen Mary start going up the Nile?

I've been to The Gambia as a single. You can add another £50 for the Malarone & the private prescription. Go to the Red Sea instead.

No, the crime you mention was in Kenya, right on the other side of Africa. The distance between Gambia and Kenya is similar to the distance between England and Iraq.

If you are willing to be, well, flexible in your choice of accommodation, then go 'flight only' to a developing country and find places to stay once you arrive. India is absurdly cheap, and I expect that charter flights to Goa would be very affordable. Ethiopia is also cheap once you are there, although the only way I could afford the flights for my last visit was to apply for a job and get invited for interview, so the employer paid for the air ticket.
