It kinda makes you wonder though why she'd bother wasting time reviewing a book about which she had no interest? And since she seemingly knows what it's like to have large debts, that she would be more sensitive to a book designed to help people in the same situation...

Maybe because she has to? It's her job. Reading books that you think you have no interest in is good for you - expanding horizons, changing opinions, seeing other people's point of view and all that. Didn't work for her in this case, but you can't go through life never looking at things you don't understand or don't intrest you, or you'll get bored pretty quickly.

Yes she has large debts, but it seems she has a good income and homes abroad, so may not in fact be struggling with them, which makes a difference. If you have debts of £40K but an income/capital of squillions, it's entirely different to people on here for help because theie debts are £40K and their income is, say, 15.

I'm agreeing with you really - ie given that she's experienced debt and frozen bank accounts, and it was a nightmare, but not the end of the world for her, that she would have sensitivity to those for whom it is.

I asked about the wooden coat hanger thing on the other thread? Maybe if we mob the Indpendent office building waving our microfibre cloths & slow-cooked rubber-chickens we might get a retraction?:rotfl::D

I think, though, that until you've been so financially desperate that you HAVE to do a lot of OS stuff, unless it's something you're into anyway, because it's greener/healthier etc, then it's hard to sympathise with really hard up people, and she evidently isn't.

Morning everyone, hope everyone is well, it's a wild windy day here again, got the windows wedged open airing the house as they keep closing by themselves. Well still not in the best of moods, but time to get on with things for now at least.

Loads to do, DPs naffed off out so I can put my music on and crack on with it (G4 now, Russell Watson to go on after fancy that type of music today)

Does anyone know how big the stainless MR fastbake is ? I've ordered one and just trying to decide where to put it when it arrives :rotfl: Not that I am excited or anything :o

Hoep everyone has a good day.
One day I might be more organised...........

What a load of rubbish! I also notice, that short of emailing them which will obviously remain private unless they decide to divulge it, there is no way of responding to this article and voicing an opinion! The narrow-mindedness of some people, especially those who think they're better off although what counts as better off is all a matter of opinion - I'd rather be at home all day to tend to the house etc and look after/play with DD when she gets home from school than go out to work and have to pay for childcare, cleaner, gardener or spend my "free" time cooking/cleaning/gardening and neglecting to spend time with my partner and daughter! I guess you could say that THAT is an old style attitude, but even if I went out to work, we would be no better off financially due to extra expenses..... could she give up work and look after a home/family and still use the over priced cosmetics? I don't think she could! :p
I'm with you on this one Nicki..that's what I'm doing. I love the os board and it has helped us enormously. I have the book and think it's great. Keep up the good work old stylers, the word needs to be spread!:T

well i read all the threads and this woman's drivvle (sp?) and come to the conclusion that shes barking..... ok im not the worlds best OSer (i do try though) and i don't post on OS much but i'm with you lot on this one, totally unfair on those who need to budget to get through daily life and those who simply want a simpler life :)

P.S can anyone point me to the thread which relates to the coathangers...........

quote from article " Or saving offcuts of wood from making shelves (when? how?) and turning them into coat hangers. When you can buy a whole bundle from Ikea for about 30p." ?????????????????????

It's either a mis-read or a mis-quote. Page 116 refers to using wood offcuts to mount coat hooks.
