Broadband without TV?

  • What they said.

If you aren't watching LIVE TV, you don't need to pay for a licence.

If your current provider don't offer a "broadband only" package, there are plenty that do. Just shop around.

Quite true Penryhn as for Jayme1 your slightly angry comment is not relevant & sadly misses the point completely. Just because its there you still need a tv licence whether you visit the site or not.

as others have said, you are wrong, if you do not have a TV licence then all that means is you cannot watch any TV as it is being broadcast.
say you want to listen to Radio 2 without a TV licence you are free to visit the BBC iplayer website and start listening to it live, also without owning a TV licence you are free to watch and listen to any TV or radio show that has been put on for catchup purposes, the only thing you cannot do is select the option to watch live TV.
the same goes for other websites eg itv player, 4oD or demand five.

remember even if you don't have a TV licence you can still own a TV to use as a screen for a games console or home theatre setup, all not having a TV licence stops you from doing is watching TV live as it is being broadcast.

as far as I can tell you only pay virginmedia for broadband and don't have a TV licence, therefore all you need to do to stop yourself being on the wrong side of the law is not visit the specific webpage the live TV is on. - oh look isn't that the point I first made, that you seemed to think was wrong? I'll have that apology now.
  • I think people are puzzled by your enquiry because you can watch live tv on your PC regardless of what internet provider you have - it's certainly available via the BBC site. Just don't do it if you don't have a licence.
