Broadband without TV?

I have asked this question of my provider(virgin) & successfully covered the whole of India & a few centres in this country as well in an attempt to answer this query. I do not, however unusual this may seem, wish to have live streamed tv through my computer & was wondering whether anyone has an answer to this. I spend most of my time listening to live radio & would therefore like to keep that option open .

  • I don't understand what you mean.

If you mean, "can I get Cable Broadband without taking Cable TV", then the answer is, "yes you can, if you live in an area where cable broadband is available"

    Go to this page:
    http://shop.virginmedia.com/
put your postcode in the box on the right to find out which sevices (including broadband) are available in your area.
  • I have cable broadband without cable tv cos i don't want TV however i still get live tv streamed on my computer & i don' t want that either comprendes
  • No, I don't comprendes.

Why do you need to speak to virgin about not streaming live TV?
Why can't you just not do it?
  • how?
    I do not want tv
I do not own a tv
I have a computer which automatically streams live tv which i don't want
I only ask a question on how can i not have it & as yet have been unsuccessful in getting an answer not just here but elsewhere
i'm quite happy with live radio i just do not want tv

that does not make sense, just don't visit the website or click the link that streams live television, simples.

you cannot just call up virgin to have them stop it cause it has NOTHING to do with them.

You need a licence to recieve live TV irrespective of how its delivered.
Maybe OP has that in mind:question:
That gum you like is coming back in style.
  • Quite true Penryhn as for Jayme1 your slightly angry comment is not relevant & sadly misses the point completely. Just because its there you still need a tv licence whether you visit the site or not.

You are incorrect. You do not need a licence if you do not use equipment (in your case your computer) to watch live TV.

To be fair, you confused me too - perhaps you didn't explain very well?

I don't have Virgin, but can you explain why it is streamed automatically - is this to a TV box or your PC? I can't understand why Virgin would saturate their network with automatic streaming TV?

Radio is available on other sites/sources - can you change your package so you don't get the Tv you don't want, and listen to the radio via the various web-based services?

If you don't have a Tv or TV receiving equipment, eg with via satelite or aerial, I don't think it likely that Tv Licensing will be able to 'detect' you're watching internet TV anyway - so even if they target you as an unlicensed address, they will find it hard to prove you're watching live TV (unless they're allowed to delve into your PC nowadays?

There's already plenty of debate on here about that but this is direct from tvlicensing.co.uk -

'If you watch or record television programmes as they're being shown on TV you must, by law, be covered by a TV Licence, no matter what device you're using'
