I voted Joseph, I like Joshua, but detest Josh which it will inevitably get shortened to.
Having said that I detest the shortened version of my DD's name and growl at anyone who dares to utter it. My DD tells people to NEVER use it in my earshotAccept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0 -
Someone said that a boys name should sound ok shouted across a bar!
I call Joshua Joshy at the moment as he is a baby, but think Josh is fine as a shortened version of Joshua for a teenager/manMetranil dreams of becoming a neon,You don't even take him seriously,How am I going to get to heaven?,When I'm just balanced so precariously..0 -
Hi
I have voted Joseph as this was one of the names I loved when expecting my little one. However, hubby did not like it so it was scrapped. We ended up with a choice of two, which was Jacob and Isaac . . . we plumped for Isaac in the end, which means the laughing one, and fits him very well!
Good luck making your decision!

William will be Bill or Billy.
Not necessarily. My half-brother William who is in his mid-thirties is known to friends and family as Will.
All of the names suggested are incredibly popular at the moment, especially Joseph, Joshua and Oliver. Just as quickly they will fall out of favour.
Whatever happened to all the Johns, Peters and Davids? It won't be long before they start coming back, maybe a few years after we've all grown tired of so many Freddies, Charlies and Archies, I reckon.
Still, all of those names are miles better than some of the awful made-up ones I've encountered. Who in their right mind would call their kid Amari?0 -
I would always go for a traditional name over a modern one.
The traditional ones may come and go with fashion, but I don't think anyone called David, John or Thomas is embarrassed by their name.Metranil dreams of becoming a neon,You don't even take him seriously,How am I going to get to heaven?,When I'm just balanced so precariously..0 -
My SIL wanted a boys name that could not be shortened so she chose Adam and now he gets called ad addy or addams:rotfl: then she chose daniel for her other son and now he gets called dan danny dt (daniel thomas) so she gives up:rotfl:
There's no such thing as a name which can't be shortened - I know an Adam who is called Addy, too. And a Guy who is called Guyla!...much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -

My grandmother always, always called my mother Elizabeth.
