  • We've had a Lumie Sunrise alarm clock for about 4 years - wouldn't be without it - much easier to get up on dark mornings.

Thanks. I'm going to use mine when I get up plus a couple of hours a night...trying to trick my brain into thinking it's daylight between 6am and 8pm :D

Dont use a sad light at night, the intense light causes a chemical reaction in your brain, which tells your body it should be wide awake, happy etc, hence why you use it first thing in the morning, you may find that using a sad light at night may mean you struggle to sleep.

SAD lights are completely different to the lights that fake a sunrise and sunset to set your bodyclock, dont confuse the 2.

I use a Valkee as i suffer from SAD, Migraines, and im also photophobic so cant use a SAD light incase it triggers my photophobia which then triggers a migraine.

The Valkee is clinically proven to relieve SAD & migraines, it works too.

Although not cheap, i was very MSE and got a very big discount.

No substitute for a very rare beef steak.
  • Bang goes the Theory, shown earlier this week had an section on it about how electric lights can effect how you sleep. Right at the end they mentioned SAD lamps and when to use them.
Worth watching if you feel you need one, you'll get the best use out of it -

    Eat it daily, no SAD

  • No the idea is to use it on a morning to set your body clock up for the day 30 minutes a day will make you more alert and or more active. The worse time is to use it at night much like drinking caffeine is.

Yup, it would seem so. Why some people can't resist being unhelpful and dismissive on a post aimed at helping a large number of people manage a debilitating condition is quite beyond me.

Light therapy is a proven method in treating S.A.D. for many. Absolutely a good diet and regular exercise also help but to totally dismiss light therapy is just unhelpful.

Besides, a lot of red meat in one's diet can lead to health problems of it's own. Plus it's an expensive way to eat that many simply can't afford and it's just not suited to some people.

I got a portable lamp from boots earlier this year and started using it end Jan, I think it made a big difference to me as I didn't suffer from my usual fed up state throughout the winter x

Have been looking at these for a few years but always thought they were much more expensive. When do you use yours and how long for? Many Thanks..
  • I have the £9.99 alarm clock and I can not get the sunrise on without the alarm bleeping if anyone buys one and works this out can you let me know please. Even though i can't work this out the bright light in the morning does help you wake up, just started using mine again this week.
