We contacte a local pub & asked them about a BBQ - they did it for £5 a head including salads, bread, sauasages, burgers & chicken fillets.

We marry on the friday, stay over with our guests till the sat we all have breakfast together in our own private room, then we will stay at another hotel on the sat night just us maybe somewhere like stratford we havnt decided yet then we will book a honeymoon the following week as a last min deal as we have 2 kids so will need to ship them off to my mums in wales 3 hrs from us so will want to see them after the wedding and before we leave. i personally wouldnt want to go straight into the honeymoon because you will have a massive come down once your back,so we will spend some time at home until were due to fly so once were back it doesnt feel so depressing as we have had a few days at home before.0

There simply isn't time to have a proper chat on the wedding day, unless you are having a very small wedding. I actually really like the idea of chilling out for a bit for a day or two after the wedding and going for lunch etc with people I don't get to see very often. Then the honeymoon happens afterwards...
And I agree with you on switching the phone off on honeymoon!
Exactly! I would like to do that, even just for one day and night.
I agree about the phones too - fed up of people giving a running Facebook commentary on their entire honeymoon!:eek::eek:7 Feb 2012: 10st7lbs14 Feb: 10st4.5lbs

Sorry but whats wrong with you people?
You want to spend an extended time with your relatives after you have got married, what exactly are you expecting your poor husband to do whist you are socialising with all and sundry?
A better way to ruin the start of a marriage I find hard to imagine.
Get married, have your reception throw the bouquet and get away to start your new life with the man you love.
Just my opinion of course. That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -

He would be there as well lol! It's quite common these days to have a BBQ for friends and family the day after the wedding, especially as some of them will have travelled some distance to attend.7 Feb 2012: 10st7lbs14 Feb: 10st4.5lbs

Blimey.
Did you actually think that we meant we would spend time just with our own families, without our husbands, as in pretending that we hadn't just got married? :rotfl:
My new husband will be with me, celebrating our recent wedding with both our families. Whom we love and actually enjoy the company of. This will be because we won't have had time to properly talk to everyone at our wedding, some of whom will have travelled a long way to see us.
Oh, and I won't be throwing my bouquet; I don't like that tradition. Just my opinion of course.

It just stretches out the celebration...We had a dinner the night before the wedding and a lunch the day after...Honeymooning's fun, but so's spending time with your friends and family...0 -
Can I just have a guestzilla moment....
We are approaching a close family wedding...and I genuinely am looking forward to it and seeing the family that will be there...but I also wish the bride and groom would go and get on with their honeymoon rather than wanting to "entertain" all us guests...
So far we are meeting 2 days before the wedding for a family meal...then the day before I'm helping set up and its been suggested that the bride and a few of us will have an "evening celebration"....then the wedding day and evening do wedding "chill out on Sunday" with those who couldnt attend the wedding ....and now the bride and groom have suggested we join them for a few drinks on Monday night prior to their honeymoon departure....
As I said I love them both dearly and I really do want to share their special day...but there is a bit of me that would love to go home on the Saturday after the wedding reception...take off my make up...crawl into my PJs and go to sleep!!frugal October...£41.82 of £40 food shopping spend for the 2 of us!
2017 toiletries challenge 179 out 145 in ...£18.64 spend0 -

Do you have to go to all of it? I understand that sometimes, in an effort to get to see everyone, couples can organise too many things for one guest to reasonably get to. If you think it's too much for you to go to all of it then miss one or two events out. It'll give the bride and groom more time to speak to other people, after all!Marrying my lovely man on 1st September 2012
