How soon after wedding to go on honeymoon?

Comments

  • My wedding will be on a Friday in August, but we won't be going on honeymoon until October. The OH is organising it all and apparently the weather is better where we are going :o

It doesn't bother me that it's so long after the wedding, gives us the opportunity to come down from the wedding high and appreciate the day instead of leaping straight into the honeymoon.
  • I'm Married tomorrow (friday 23rd) and leave for honeymoon next Wednesday (28th). I'm back at work though on Monday and Tuesday (d'oh!)

I'm quite glad we have a few days in between because we can dedicate the time need to do last min wedding preps and know we will have chance to concentrate on the honeymoon stuff after the wedding.

I don't think those few days will involve us going out and about visiting people. We'll probably save it until we get back so we can tell them about the honeymoon too (its combined with our 30th birthdays so it's not all romance!!!)

  • When you get married, the whole point of the honeymoon is to spend time alone with your new spouse .... not sit and sup tea with your family!!

True, although these days most couple have alread spent time together before the wedding.

    (ETA living together etc)

  • We deliberately chose to marry at Christmas to maximise bank holidays for the honeymoon! Our plan is:

    Marry on Saturday 17th
Saturday and Sunday nights in posh hotel (thanks MSE Martin for that deal :) )
Back to work for Tues, Weds, Thurs, Fri
Saturday 24th to Tuesday 27th (inc 2 bank holidays) volunteering at Crisis at Christmas, where we first met!
Wednesday 28th December to Saturday 14th January - cottage in the countryside, relaxing - bliss. Although we'll be driving back to London for a friend's wedding on New Year's Eve, so a bit of partying too!
  • We are getting married on a saturday, on the Sunday we will just be chilling (and although its not till next July oh has already seen that the grand prix will be on!!:rotfl:) and sorting out bits and in the evening travelling to a hotel near the hotel and flying out for 2 weeks on the Monday.

Have you decided where you are going and looked at what days you can fly there- this could determine what day you go because some place may only have flights once or twice a week.

I'd expect to go on honeymoon soonest - and all phones turned off for the entire duration of the honeymoon.

Good point, but when so many people live a long way from their relatives it's nice to spend a couple of days catching up, not as part of the honeymoon, but before it - a sort of extended wedding celebration, if you will. There simply isn't time to have a proper chat on the wedding day, unless you are having a very small wedding. I actually really like the idea of chilling out for a bit for a day or two after the wedding and going for lunch etc with people I don't get to see very often. Then the honeymoon happens afterwards...

And I agree with you on switching the phone off on honeymoon!

We haven't decided on the honeymoon yet - have been too busy booking the venue, church, photographer, videographer and band since we got engaged three weeks ago!

We are getting married on the Friday, having a barbecue with firends and family on the Saturday, and then either flying away for the two-week honeymoon on Sunday or Monday. We think that having the barbecue is a good idea as most people will still be around (house is not far from the wedding venue) and it will be a nice relaxed way to carry on the celebrations!
Getting married to a wonderful lady on August 10, 2012.

Need to save up, lose weight, reduce my money worries and get back to being the real me! :j

Wow. I am feeling horribly disorganised in comparison. I've been engaged for a year and a half and haven't got nearly that much done! I can't believe that you've got the day after already planned, and are thinking about your speech! I want to do a speech as well, (yes, I'm the bride, but why should the men have all the crippling pre-speech nerves-based fun??) but not even close to thinking about what I want to say!

I really want to steal your idea of having a post-wedding barbecue, but we don't have a garden :(

We're marrying on the Monday, having a few days with friends who have come from overseas, then flying off on Sunday. Should be perfect for giving us some chillout time between the two as the honeymoon is going to be pretty action packed!
