Urgent help needed please!!

I have just had a row on the phone with Orange who provide my "service" which I have used for years. I have been unable to pay the last 2 bills as my partner hasn't been working but now has a full time job so I asked could I pay the amount in full in October. They agreed but said they would have to cut me off til then, so my way of seeing it is that I will be paying for a service which I am not receiving. The idiot on the phone kept telling me how I'd entered into a financia agreement and I actually cannot believe how condescending he became when I tried to put my point across about feeding my children and getting to work was more important than paying a bill when I haven't had any money and I would rather them just cut me off completel, but I would still have to pay the contractual monthly fee which for 2 iPhone's and a broadband dongle is not cheap. Is there anything I can do? I'm not refusing to pay it, I am willing to pay the amount in full but I have had other priorities. Seriously, I am so angry I could cry!!

Any help appreciated.

  • But you haven't paid for the service...? You can pay it in October, so they'll suspend your service until then.
  • But by October I will have paid for the service I won't have received from now until then. If that makes sense?
  • Ultimately I would like to know if there is anyway I can get out of the contract as I cannot really afford it any longer with all my outgoings increasing in the years since I have been with them.
  • You are within your rights to cancel the contract, but you will have to pay for the remaining term in a lump sum.

Firstly, the person on the phone was not an idiot and told you everything correctly.
Orange is not a charity and your children are not their business.
If you need some sympathy go to a charity, not to Orange, but don't forget to tell them about two iPhones and the dongle.

If you don't want to pay just cancel the DDs and have both your and your husband's credit histories trashed. As simple as that. Expect the debt collectors to start knocking on your door soon.
  • Really unnecessary of you to talk down to me but fine. I'll ask on a forum where rather than be given retorts like that they may actually try and help by giving me some guidance.

OR what you mean to say is "I'm going to flounce off now because you're not telling me what I want to hear".

You haven't paid your bill in 2 months, Orange are cutting you off until you do pay. You want to cancel your contract because now you can't afford it.

Unfortunately, that's life. If you can't afford you current bill then look at downgrading it to a lower tariff. Once you've caught up on your missed payments though.

I downgraded my tariff twice last year because of rising costs and having to start paying for a lengthy commute to work. It's all about priorities.

Be adult about it, calling people "idiots" isn't going to make them want to help you.

    Guidance?
Sell the iPhone(s), pay the bill and buy some less expensive handset(s) instead.
  • What I want to hear is advice so if you have none to give then keep your sniping comments to yourself please. If there is nothing I can do then fine, I don't need people telling me it's tough that I can't pay my bills, I want guidance so if you have none to give then please can you just keep your opinions to yourself.
  • The person on the phone was not an idiot, he's right. You did enter into a financial agreement to pay monthly and if you don't the service will be cut off. Orange have agreed to restart it when you pay the amount you owe them. To cancel the contract you have to pay off the remaining term. This issue is not going to be changed by taking it out on a call centre worker who doesn't have the authority to change company policy and is probably just working there to feed his kids.
