Whilst unlikely, it is possible for an ATM to take a photograph of the user and to flag up an alert if you look substantially different from usual. Facial recognition software isn't that expensive now and all it takes is someone to look at the two photos, confirm they are not the same person and cancel the card on fraud grounds.
A much safer and easier option is to open an account and get your mother to use PC or Telephone banking to transfer the appropriate funds to your own account (as already stated). Or for your mother to come with you to withdraw the funds (this I've done before).0
