Lidl's sell a type of noodle below,I simply boil the kettle & bung the noodles in a bowl, pour on the hot water & leave to soak, drain & add to the stir fry. They're more like the noodles you get with the old Vesta Chow Mein.Quite tasty.

If OH doesn't cook, he could at least turn on the oven or microwave if your pre-cooked meal was ready and waiting. That way it would be almost done when you got in.
Our standby meal is a tin of soup and some garlic bread from the freezer (usually bought when on special). The garlic bread takes the longest as we put it in the oven from frozen, but if you let it defrost in the oven from the morning, if OH turns on the oven as he walks in it will be ready by the time you have opened tins of soup and warmed them up...
If you are worried about 5 a day, add something fruity for dessert - bananas in custard, fruit in jelly, baked apple (core and stuff with dried fruit & cinnamon, pour over honey and bake) or similar.Trust me - I'm NOT a doctor!0 -

Thanks OP some good quick ideas on here. Ahem, I hope that the rest of the family are helping with preparations here? I 'organise' them on the way home. Rinse cossies, hang towels up to dry etc Then you don't have to do them after tea;):)The beautiful thing about learning is nobody can take it away from you.
Thanks to everyone who contributes to this wonderful forum. I'm very grateful for the guidance and friendliness that I always receive from you.

Our backup "quick" teas are stir fries, very very quick indeed if you don't do rice (and noodles are much nicer anyway IMHO! - also, anything with scramled egg (e.g. toast and scrambled egg, or beans on toast with a side of scrambled egg) - sardines on toast with a ton of salad thrown onto the side.
If it's cold though you can't beat a slow cooker, as posters have already mentioned0 -
Remember eggy bread? It's the most amazing comfort food, really fast to make and kids love it. I make it with staffordshire oatcakes instead of bread, and serve with ketchup or barbeque sauce.I believe in the freedom of spinach and the right to arm bears.
