  • im dealing with my nosey neighbours by planning on moving in the next few years when we can afford somewhere rural and isolated.

Cant wait for the day that happens as Im fed up already of my comings and goings and visitors being noted and asked about. Its so bad that if i have to do any shopping i will sometimes leave it in the car and bring it in later at night than right then and there as next door is always out the moment i pull into the drive wanting to know where ive been and what ive been buying.
  • i really couldnt cope with some of your neighbours, i do admit i like a wee gossip/chat with my elderly neighbour but she enjoys it too, gives her someone to talk to as she lives alone. None of my neighbours have ever quizzed me about coming and going etc and to be fair i would be very shocked if they did. We do have a neighbour who is a pain in the a**e and everyone avoids her and now i think she has noticed as she is apparently telling others that people do not like her here and do not want to talk to her! she was so bad that she was often just walking into another neighbours house!!

i do think its nice when neighbours can have a wee chat over the garden wall etc my neighbour on the opposite side barely says hello, even if our hanging washing at same time etc

Isn't that why people have net curtains when their windows are near the pavements :)?

I used to hate net curtains and removed them from hubbies house when we got married (he already lived there)....just recently put them back up (after 7 odd yrs) as people gawking in on the way past/to the bus stop etc drive me nuts. We only have them at the front lounge though as back is not on line of view in same way.

  • I live in a tiny Welsh village and my neighbours all look out for one another and there's a great sense of community; the trick, as others have said is just not to get involved with local gossip / feuds - at all!

Some of the 'oldies' here are truly formidable and will have every bit of information out of a stranger before he / she has even got out of their car, and this includes where they're from, job title, marital status and number of children. :D

They've got it down to a fine art, but we've got the lowest crime rate going. :)

I wonder what our neighbours think of us then, as our curtains are almost permanently closed!

That, together with cardboard back tin foil on the windows, helps to keep the sunlight from heating our apartment up too much. It still gets way too hot, but it helps to keep it 1 or 2 degrees cooler. Which, when it's 30 degrees plus indoors, makes a huge difference!

But, even in the winter, I only tend to open the curtains at the weekends. Doesn't seem much point otherwise, as we leave when it's dark, and return when it's dark.

  • ive recently moved into my new house with my 2 kids in last couple months, and my neighbours have been lovely so far-the people here before me were nightmares apparently so i think they're relieved we're pretty 'normal and quiet'. Though that may have been shattered last night when my cousin came to pick me up as we were going to the cinema, and as it was hot i was wearing a skirt. As i locked the door, my cousin opened car window and shouted 'Em i think you forgot to put your skirt on' rather loudly-sure that got a few neighbours nosying lol!!!

I have a few nosy neighbours too - when I first moved into this house me and OH had just the one child. I thought I was getting on quite well with the neighbours so was a bit puzzled when they started avoiding me and giving me strange looks. My OH came in one day grinning all over his face and said to me - The old codger over the road just took me aside and whispered in my ear that you are knocking off the postie!
I nearly wet myself laughing - my postie brother had recently changed rounds and was popping into my house for a quick cuppa and/or loo visit!

I've seen my next door neighbour standing by the living room window with a notepad! She even goes upstairs to look through the bedroom window if we're out in the garden. Nosey cow.
