I would just ignore the curtain twitching, be polite without giving away too much information and be glad that I wasn't living next door to a bunch of chav-type people whose main interest is blasting loud music at 3amCross Stitch Cafe member No. 32012 170-194 2013 195-207.Hello Kitty ballerina 208.AVA 209.OLIVIA 210.ELLA 211.CARLA 212.LOUISE 213.CHARLEY 214.Mother & Child 215.Stop Faffing Completed 2014 216.Stitchers Sampler. 217.Let Them Be Small 218.Keep Calm 219. Thank you for your funny stories!! Yes I am absolutely delighted they are a pleasant couple and not screaming kids or blaring music. Its just not something I’d come across before. And it will be nice to have someone looking out for me – sometimes I worry I could be dead for days with no-one noticing but I guess that won’t happen here!
I am a bit concerned about gossip – not that there is anything to gossip about me, really, but they were telling me all sorts about other people – for example they told me that the whole relationship history of the couple who lived here previously!0 -
I think my Nan's neighbours would be horrified at the way she tracks them and reports to us lol...0

Our neighbours on both sides are amazing.... They take deliveries for us, will watch the house etc if we need, and are generally fantastic.
When I moved in with DH I didn't really introduce myself, but did pop round after a couple of weeks to let them know I'd be doing some fairly intensive work rebuilding the porch, and if noise or dust started bothering them to let me know straightaway and I'd stop for the day. Far from being annoyed at me, I was pleasantly surprised with jugs of juice while I was busy! We've been friendly ever since.
We recently took our house off the market after no viewings, and one neighbour burst into tears at my DH, saying she'd been so worried we would move and she wouldn't get to see baby when it arrives.
Curtain twitchers can be annoying, but also good. We have the good type, who are genuinely interested in helping us out, and let us know if anything's happened. They are worth their weight in gold easily- I know if we're away they'll call us instantly if there's a problem.0 -
At one house I lived in there was a retired couple next door. One day I came home and found she had let herself through my side gate and took the washing in as it had started raining ! I know she meant well but I found that too much.
As per previous comments, although annoying, the good outweighs the bad.0 -
Wave
and be grateful the neighbours take an interest...free neighbourhood watch!
I agree - my neighbours are also an older couple, both now retired, with their family close by. They've lived in their house since the husband was a young boy, so know everyone and everything thats going on in the street. They don't even close their curtains until one of them goes to bed at night, so they don't have to move them to see whats going on :rotfl:.
They still, 7 years in my house next door to them, ask me direct questions I wouldn't be nosy or bothered enough to ask them about. If I want to tell them, I will, if not they get a very abridged version of what they've asked. They are lovely though, always there for us in an emergency and I can guarantee when I'm away from home that my house is being well looked out for(I wouldn't give them a key though, they'd be having a good old nosy while I wasn't there).

We have twitchy neighbours too and they (well she in particular) love to gossip. I'm friendly to a point but keep distance so they don't have stuff on me to share. I actually managed to split up with my husband and somehow she didn't figure it out...despite another neighbour having kids at the same school as my sons, and the fact his car would appear on a Friday to pick the boys up, drop them back on a Sunday and not be there the rest of the time. She scared the life out of me one day when she let herself in my back door to tell me she'd just heard (4 months after the event!), and wanted to check I was OK!!!0

I have the opposite problem. I have just moved to a new house and without fail everytime my neighbour walks passed (several times a day walking his dog) he peers in, not just a slight glance but almost tripping over himself to have a good ork!.. my window is only about 3 feet from the footpath... At first I wasn't particularly bothered but it is begining to get to me..
I don't want to fall out but does anyone else think this is rude? or should I try to ignore him?...or god forbid do like my Mum did and get net curtains...0 -
Isn't that why people have net curtains when their windows are near the pavements
