My mum is becoming one of these since she retired- her trick is to leave her recycling bin out the front, and a basket of recyclables just inside the front door, so if there is something going on, she picks out a paper/milk bottle, and totters out with it to have a good old nosey..

Sometimes you can't help hearing what your neighbours are up to. Many years ago I was hanging out washing and next doors bathroom window was open. There was loads of laughter and splashing noises, then the man of the house said, 'you can wash my face now!' My OH and me still laugh about that. :rotfl:
  • My dad and his OH have nosy neighbours (she's well known in their village as she used to run the corner shop, and still lives next door to it). Every time they do any decorating (or anything remotely interesting) they get 20 questions....... fortunately, they can both tell a good tall story and have the locals believing all sorts of carp. The latest is that they're tiling the dining room as they're having a hot tub fitted :rotfl:

I have the opposite problem. I have just moved to a new house and without fail everytime my neighbour walks passed (several times a day walking his dog) he peers in, not just a slight glance but almost tripping over himself to have a good ork!.. my window is only about 3 feet from the footpath... At first I wasn't particularly bothered but it is begining to get to me..

I don't want to fall out but does anyone else think this is rude? or should I try to ignore him?...or god forbid do like my Mum did and get net curtains...

wait for him to walk to your window and be ready with a scary mask :rotfl:
  • Bless them, they've got nothing better to do, that's all!! Personally, I don't think you do have to 'deal' with them.

Our next door neighbour one side and the ones next to her are retired and they love nothing better than to see what I'm up to!! I like to think I provide them with a service really, as if it wasn't for our family's comings and goings, they'd have nothing to discuss. They don't have families of their own and don't go anywhere except the shops (they tell me this). They love to know where I'm off to, when I'll be back, did we enjoy it etc. I don't mind telling them, it's not like I'm MI5: in which case I'd want to keep it secret!

There's nothing they can do with the information that we're off to playgroup, dance class, shopping, friend's house etc, so what's the harm in letting them know?

Strongly suspect by the comment " leaves their curtains closed till really late" that you should wave but always be in a rush, dont hang round to chat,or else it will become a habit of them rushing out to tell you who they dont like and why.

This to be honest is the main thing I am concerned about. They have already (completely unprompted) told me all sorts of things about my seller - that she stole husband off previous wife  etc. Whilst I am happy to stand discussing the merits of different weedkillers or the new bus stop for as long as they like I am not a gossip and hate people to know my business or speculate on what I'm up to!
  • My neighbours do that sort of thing too and gossip about the other neighbours, but I just let it go in one ear and out the other, making comments like "she's always nice to me, I don't have a problem with her" etc. I don't like gossiping either, but I don't see the harm in telling them what I'm up to, as at the end of the day, family life isn't really that interesting!

If I was young, free, single with a new man every night, I'd be more cautious around them!

My (male) friend did offer to come round and make loud sex noises with me :rotfl:
  • Get a female friend round to do it instead: it'll give them more to talk about!
