Any advantage to buying from Apple store?

I am considering purchasing an ipad2 Is there any advantage to buying in an Apple store as opposed to Argos,Currys etc? Prices seem to be the same.

  • If you haven't used one before etc. they show you around it, how to use it and all that jazz. Customer service is pretty decent.

Also if you have or know someone with a student card I think they give pretty decent student discount. I bought my girlfriend a macbook a couple of years ago and saved over £100.

Other than that I can't think of an obvious benefit.

I dont think student discount is available on ipads - although i could be wrong.

Does the OP have a nectar card? if so go through the nectar website and get points for your purchase.

I doubt the ipad will be a cheaper price anywhere else, Apple normally make sure they are all sold at the same price.
  • Apple every time, their customer service is second to none.

The same can't be said for the likes of Currys/PCWorld, Comet who have very bad after sales service IME.
  • Their service is massively better than other companies, that said, even if you don't buy from them and turn up with a faulty item they generally will still try to help even though in most cases you should be going back to the company you bought it from as its with them you hold a contract with.

You can get your 3% cashback from Quidco for buying from Apple directly the same as DSG and personally I would reward their service with my custom, that combined with my hate for DSG/ Comet etc
  • Apple won't try to push you into after sales services such as insurance, tech support etc. In fact they won't even mention it. I always hate getting that spiel when I buy something from PC World etc.

Their 14-day no quibble refund is my main reason for buying in an Apple store. You can use the device and still take it back within the return period. The latest date for the no-quibble period is printed on your receipt so it is all very clear.

Wherever you buy your item from I would recommend purchasing Apple Care. Not sure how much it is on an iPad, but gives additional 2 year cover on top of your standard 1 year. Doesnt need buying immediately, as long as you buy in your first year...

Im planning on buying a Macbook Pro next week with student discount.

Does anyone know if it would be better for me to buy instore (apple store) or to buy online/ over the phone if Im not connected to my uni network. Are there any benifits of buying rather instore/over the phone?

    Thanks :)

i bought mine instore, drove home with it that day.

If you got the student discount you get applecare for £50 (instead of £200 - will mean your mac is protected until september 2014 if buying this month) and you get discount on iworks - apple's office package.

if you order online think you can go through nectar website and get nectar points??

Apple have excellent customer service generally. If you go in store and ask them directly they will usually tell the best way to buy. I've often had them send me back for educational discount via my Uni online portal for the best price when I was working in education but they still gave me a demo and answered all questions in store.

Their staff don't get any commission or anything like that and know that you'll keep coming back.

A LOT of UK stores could learn from Apple ;)
