Refurb Iphone 3GS

  • What kind of inclusive allowances would you need? I find that so many people focus on the phone and not what they need a plan to give them, the plan has a large impact on the phone you can get as obviously the more allowance you need the more you pay per month and the better phone you can get for free :)

No, thats why I am looking at the 3GS or something along that line. I dont want and cant afford the latest all singing all dancing type and probably wouldnt use all that they offer.

They're still overpriced for what you get. I would look at the Orange San Francisco, Samsung Galaxy Ace or another Android handset. They're much cheaper but have got very similar (if not better) features than the 3gs.
Have I helped? Feel free to click the 'Thanks' button. I like to feel useful (and smug). ;)

I am not a great music listener, so wouldn't download lots of music, would like to use the internet, emails, text, and calls and use the apps. The large touchscreen was brilliant for texting and using, so much easier than buttons. The smallest )2 allowance is 100mb which according to them does 100,000 emails, 2000 web pages and about 20mins You Tube viewing. Do the apps use data allowance ? The refurb has 50mins and 250 texts or the new 3gs has 100mins and 500texts.

I am a bit wary of going to one of the phone shops as I dont want to be pressured into buying something I dont need and spending more than needed.
  • What about minutes and texts? How many would you use per month?

Some apps will use data, e.g. weather apps pull information from the internet to work, and obviously facebook/twitter etc, but games like angry birds don't use data.

Do you have any access to free Wi-Fi? E.g. at home/at work? This will cut down on how much data allowance you need in your mobile plan.

  • I'd say the Samsung Galaxy Ace, or the HTC Wildfire are good options, both Android, they both have nice big screens and pretty decent specs and you'd be looking to get them for free for around £15 a month contract. Go into a store and have a look at them to get more of an idea, that's what I always do if I'm looking for a new phone, see how they feel in your hand!

If you're still hooked on an iPhone I'd say go for a new 3GS, but bear in mind the insurance for iPhones is usually more expensive than for other smartphones.

If you can use Wi-Fi at home then I'd say 100MB sounds enough for what you'd use. Bear in mind you will use more data if you let your apps update automatically, I have all mine switched to manual so it's not constantly polling for updates and using up data.

Many thanks Kelly and everyone. You have been a lot of help. I think I am going to have a look at the Samsung and HTC as they may be fine for what I want and cheaper than the Iphone. When I have read a bit about them I will pluck up courage and go into a phone shop to have a look.
