Refurb Iphone 3GS
I have been looking at the 02 offer for a contract with a refurbished Iphone 3gs which looks to be offering good prices with nothing up front.. Can anyone say if thiese refurbished phones are ok. What would happen if they develop a fault ? would 02 repair them FOC ?

I'd expect them to have the normal 1 year warranty with Apple, like refurbished ones bought from Apple directly.
I've had a quick look at the O2 website, and the iPhone 3GS is free with a contract whether it's a refurb or not, so why not just get a new one? But it was only a quick look, so I've probably missed something.
But 8GB is very unlikely to be enough storage unless you don't want to use the phone much for anything other than web browsing and phone calls. And if that's all you are doing, what's the point of an iPhone?0 -
I'd be wary of the 3GS being doing what you want. I knew a friend who had the 3GS and said it was no way near as good as the IP4, it wont let you buy itunes for example.
Additionally I'd question the 8gb space being enough also. I only added my favorite tunes from itunes and CDs and already went over 8gb on my ipod, this only included 2 apps but I now have more (they are free) though would easily have more if I had internet access on the thing! (Wifi isn't possible as you have to have paid for it/know the password to access it in 99% of places in London), then theres any documents, any phone calls, any email details.... (none of which I have on the ipod but would also take up space) you could just not need more space....but I doubt it, you'd probably not be looking for something along the lines of an iphone if that were true!0 -

The 3GS was superceeded by the 4 which is about to be superceeded by the 5/4GS. It may be cheap but I'd say you'd be better saving more for a 4 than a 3GS.
8GB *IS* plenty of spacefor many people my 16GB IP4 is less than half full but then I'm not a big music listener so it's not full of MP3's0 -
Having a 3gs for two years is not a good thing,0

The 3GS is fine and still an okay phone. There is nothign that you can do on the iPhone 4 that can't be done on the 3GS (well, apart from FaceTime and Locate my Iphone).
Just correcting, I would still go with the iPhone 4!

This will be my 1st smartphone as such. Up till now have just had a PAYG ( I am between 50/60 so possibly older than normal 1st timers !) Am looking at these and contracts after 'playing' with a friends 3GS. I am not a great music listener, so wouldn't download lots of music, would like to use the internet, emails, text, and calls and use the apps. The large touchscreen was brilliant for texting and using, so much easier than buttons. Possibly the Iphone isn't what I need and wouldnt be right for me. Could anyone maybe suggest a different phone. I have tried reading up about them but do get a bit confused with all the details thrown at me. I dont really want a large sum up front and a monthly fee. Thats what attracted me to the o2 3GS contract, refurb phone was free.0

I've got an iphone 3 and I'm very fond of it. I don't listen to much music, but did find it handy for copying revision CDs and revising on the go (just finished my accountancy exams). I use a few apps and like being able to access the internet quite easily when out and about. In short, I think it's a good phone and haven't felt limited by the memory. Main downside is the short battery life.
It may well be that other similar cheaper phones are better for your needs. Why not go into an independent phone shop, e.g. Carphone warehouse or Phones for you and see what they recommend.0 -
No, thats why I am looking at the 3GS or something along that line. I dont want and cant afford the latest all singing all dancing type and probably wouldnt use all that they offer.0

I would suggest either the HTC Wildfire, Desire (slightly more expensive as it does more/works faster but battery doesn't last as long) or the Samsung Galaxy S, not sure exactly the price difference but would have thought the price would be similar.
If you can get to a larger Carphone Warehouse or even a Phones 4U (and also some larger 02 stores) you should be able to get a hands-on feel of either to help you make up your mind, I'd advise looking and the specs first though to see which handset suits you best.
Or if your after the 3GS you could take an even bigger gamble and hang out a month longer, see what happens to the price when the i-phone5 comes out.0
