I just had a phone call from some PPI claiming company.

He wanted me to confirm my date of birth and address.

I asked him why and he said it was so he could confirm I was who I said I was.

I told him he phoned me and if he wanted that info he wasn't getting it and if he thought I was a burglar to phone the police and hung up.

    I actually think thats hilarious!

I've had that too - I just do the "you phoned me so who are you?!" routine. worst thing that bugs me is they hang up when you ask where they got your number!

Just tell them they have called a crime scene where the person they are asking for has just been found dead, now then, exactly how do you know the deceased, where were you last night, when did you last see them, when they say but I dont, you ask, why are you calling peoples telephones you have never met asking for them by name and then saying you dont know them, bit odd that isnt it, as we have just found them dead, can I have your details please, name, address and date of birth...
    Works every time...

A smile costs nothing, but gives a lot.
It enriches those who receive it without making poorer those who give it.
A smile takes only a moment, but the memory of it can last forever.
  • Classic scam...they then ask you to confirm your CC number so they can 'check how much' PPI you have paid and can claim back. They don't mention any fees etc. Next think you know is a few weeks later and a statement comes through with a charge of up to £1500 for their PPI reclaiming services.

    Total con artists.

I love the creative ways people deal with this sort of scum on the phone :)
Common sense?...There's nothing common about sense!

One of my banks, hsbc, do this. They also call from a withheld number. Idiots.

I still seem to get them despite being registered with the TPS, they get very shocked when i tell them that i am registered with them and can face prosecution, furthermore if they continue to contact me then I will take legal action for harassment.

TPS only stops some calls ex companies seem to think its okay to continue relationship after you leave, it just isnt worth the agrovation telling them to taking a running jump been there done that too many times

I got hardware device called truecall best hardware investment I got for years. Wish they did one for doors :)

Truecall filters calls you can block callers you can record calls with added SD card and also logs calls incoming/outgoing. You can add white list to add mates/family so they dont get integrated by the device

I haven't had one single cold call since March 2010 :)

It costs £80+ well worth it in my eyes
