bike fell off halfords bike rack

like title reads
my lads bike fell of the bike rack because of very heavy rain and wind.
i took the rack to halfords who said the rack was faulty and replaced a new rubber
i have a signed statement from the store stating this.
customer service are saying they cant do anything with my claim without a receipt, which i cant find, and i didnt pay on my card. customer service told me to ask the store to look on the day i purchased the rack but the store are saying that they can find the receipt but cant prove that it was actually mine

i just want to know if theres anything more i can do or do i have to camp outside the store and protest until they fix it

Looking at it from their eyes you could have bought it from someone else?
  • If you bought using a card, a bank statement is acceptable proof of purchase for a faulty product.
One important thing to remember is that when you get to the end of this sentence, you'll realise it's just my sig.

It's not clear whether you're trying to get some recompense for the rack or the bike. You say they 'replaced a new rubber' regarding the rack. Is this all sorted then and it's the bike you're trying to claim for?

Or is it that you want a refund for the rack? But you say they've replaced something. Is there still work to be done?

    Sorry, I'm a bit confused.

If someone comes in and tells you the time and date they bought it, how they paid and whether they bought something else - and you can find a matching record on your system, surely you'd have to give them the benefit of the doubt?

But something's been replaced on the rack ("said the rack was faulty and replaced a new rubber"). Isn't this a repair so job done?

If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.
  • Do you want them to pay for the damage caused to the bike for it falling off the rack?

See, this is what I'm wondering. It appears that the rack was repaired so I don't know what's going on.

OK. So Halfords have admitted liability about the rack. Have they also said that they'll pay for any damage caused by the faulty rack? I ask this because often companies wash their hands of things like this. That the rack's fitted at your own risk, blah blah, and they can't be held responsible blah blah.

If they are happy to pay for damage to the bike too, then why do they care when or where you bought it? What if it were a bike from a different bike shop? What if it's 20 years old? Surely if they've agreed to pay damages for the bike because it was transported on their faulty rack, then they should just stump up regardless.

Or have they decided they'll fix the rack (on the strength of being able to see it and see that it's faulty) but to pursue a more formal complaint (with all its associated admin) they need the receipt for the rack?

I've read your post again and I still don't know whether they want the receipt for the rack or the bike. Having said that, if they're prepared to fix the rack but want the receipt for the rack before they pay out for the bike then they're mentalists. They know you bought the rack - they've fixed it!

And if they want the receipt for the bike, then they've no real justification for asking for this.

    I'm still confused!
