As it's possible she may well have been ill as she said, I like to give people the benefit of the doubt. I'd personally leave a neutral and perhaps 4/5 stars for both postage and communication, which would give my impression of the transaction, which is what feedback should be used for.
No need to punish a slow seller too much if they do deliver a good service in the end.0 -

I'm an obsessive internet user but I do have genuine problems on occasion:
- I live in Wales but work in London, so I have a flat in central London that I use during the week. It doesn't have internet because I can't justify signing a contract there. So if I fall ill during the week and feel unable to travel home or to work, I'm stuck with my 3G dongle and Android phone, both of which are useless at peak times because the network there is so overloaded.
- Similarly, I do voluntary work at festivals. I take a campervan which makes phone charging easier, but again the internet access can be unbearable (I'm talking about 3 hours of hanging the phone out of the van's roof just to download one text-based email). So that's another 7-10 days without internet.
- I realise this isn't typical, but I also have to travel a lot with my main job. A few weeks ago I went to Russia and found that my hotel had no internet access, and even the facility I was using to work in during the days didn't have internet access. Since Russia is outside of the EU, data roaming was extortionate so I had to go without.
Now I'm sure this lady's circumstances are different to my own, but to suggest that "everyone has constant internet these days" just isn't true. I STRIVE for constant internet and yet can't achieve itMortgage | £145,000Unsecured Debt | [strike]£7,000[/strike] £0 Lodgers | |0 -
But you wouldn't try and continue with something that required a certain level of responsibility to manage - like eBay selling - would you?
If I was ill or didn't have stable internet access at home I'd think very carefully about whether it was right for me to take people's money and then not send the item for two weeks. You have to take control of things yourself, you can't expect people paying you for something to necessarily understand your personal situation."Well, it's election year, Bill, we'd rather people didn't exercise common sense..." - Jed Bartlet, The West Wing, season 4

Do you sell on ebay very much though?
If I couldn't be guaranteed of having the internet at home I wouldn't try & sell on ebay.0 -
Most recently a Vespa (about 4 weeks ago). The winner had to arrange collection on a day when I would be back in Wales, which for our mutual convenience turned out to be just last week.
I only sell when I need to sell something - it's not my full-time business. And if the item's small enough, I'll take it with me to post from my current location.
Are you saying that I (and countless other 'average people') should be banned from selling on eBay, just in case they're a bit slow replying to emails / getting to the post office if they get sick? Wasn't eBay originally designed to be for everyone who had something spare to sell on?Mortgage | £145,000Unsecured Debt | [strike]£7,000[/strike] £0 Lodgers | |0 -

No one can say who should sell and who should not, however I think any seller who uses ebay regularly without having full access is just a disaster waiting to happen. Buyers are not daft they won't accept all these excuses anymore- it is hardly the buyers problem if a seller is over reaching themselves.
With so many proper professional sellers on ebay it is impossible for poorer sellers to survive . If there is a two tier system with proper professional type sellers at the top and th lesser sellers , who take a few liberties and get a bit behind at the bottom- surely that just proves that ebay has moved on and is now only for the professional seller?
Personally I think there is room for both professional and private sellers, but I do not expect any lesser service from a private seller, otherwise I just wouldn't buy from them.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Absolutely, stars as well. 5* for someone who despatches when they say they will and start knocking the despatch stars for those sellers who don't
I'm currently buying a lot of things from the Far East for a (non) ebay business- they all warn that items are being delayed at the HK/China end due to restrictions on export. I usually expect to wait about 30 days or even more for my goods. Yet when they arrive I leave 5* across the board as I have had the exact service I expected. However I recently left a neutral and terrible stars for a UK seller who lied about despatch and who actually sent the item about 10 days after purchase- when his listing clearly stated despatch in 1 working day.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards.
