Hi i won an item and paid for it on the 12th sept,4-5 working days for delivery.i had previously messaged this person twice about 3 days before the end of the auction asking for some more info on the item.i never got a reply back but took my chances and bid as there was no other on ebay and i really wanted it for my daughter.anyway i have not had the item yet and its not been marked as dispatched so have contacted her today and asked if it has been posted yet? her reply

sorry ive been ill and had no access to internet , im back at work now i will send your goods 1st class delivery tomorrow. sorry for any inconvience, once ive sent it i will msg you the ref.

why wait until a week after ive paid for the item straight away to tell me your ill, maybe something to do with the fact i can open an Item not recieved?

I have no idea what sort of feedback to leave,i find it poor service,i post out to my buyer within 3 days of the auction ending and money being in my paypal.she has 1 neg and 2 neutral about posting out

  • some people seem to think that internet access is still rare and so believe being ill/on holiday is an adequate excuse

while i don't want to be unsympathetic this sort of thing seems to be such a stock ebay seller excuse, see how much they sell, if it's not much then I'd give them the benefit of the doubt, they may be really internet unsavvy

if they've sold a fair bit I'd mark their communication down, assuming you recieve the goods as they've said

if the item is recieved as per their communication i'd say a neg is over the top, mark down on comms

if it'sd a business seller then maybe consider a neg, but i don't think they will be

Decide feedback once you get the goods. Personally I also think that a week to despatch is un acceptable.

Thanx for the replies, not a business seller no just a regular joe blogs selling items no longer needed/used.
Its a kids item so im assuming she has kids to be selling it on,surely they go to school? which would mean leaving the house, ive been ill all weekend and still am yet ive took my kids to school this morning and could have quite easily gone to the post office if need be

A week is a joke,i will definetly be marking stars down for comms, item didnt cost alot so will see if its as described when i recieve it

a message days ago to say she is bed ridden and cant leave the house would have been fine just seems like a rubbish excuse for not bothering to go to the post office

It's up to you to decide. Got one of these myself and I know I took a chance on someone who was new and a private seller because the item I wanted was cheaper on eBay from them than on Amazon, but been waiting a week and just emailed a polite "have you sent my item" message ten minutes ago.

I've borrowed the series from a friend; I guess I will probably buy it anyway because I like having the sets and it's something that has rewatch value, but

I agree with both Soo and Grint. There are reasons I would accept - such as a simple "I forgot, sorry, it's on its way to you now" (not tomorrow, not whenever I can be bothered, but I just got back from posting it - the trouble with what she's said is that how likely is it that it will get sent tomorrow?) - but the problem with excuses is you can usually demolish them very easily so you make them at your own risk.

Here are a couple of facts.

People get sick. Amazing as it may seem, being an eBay seller doesn't grant you the powers of immunity to all diseases.

People still don't have internet access at home. Again, shocking as this may seem to you, some people don't actually have computers and internet access at home.

It seems very clear that this seller only has internet access at work, so having been off ill she hasn't been able to deal with her auctions. It's also very plausible that she didn't know or trust anyone to deal with her auctions for her.

You have no idea what her illness was, could have been sudden and severe, the sort of thing you can't plan for in advance.

Yes, a lot of people play the sick card, but every so often that 'excuse' will be true.

Considering she said she is back at work TOMORROW in my eyes means she has access to the internet at home beens as she has sent this today and isnt back to work till tomorrow, regardless of her being ill i should have been contacted as there was no mention in her message of being hospitalised which if i had sold an item and had been struck down with something so severe to be bed bound or hospital bound i would have mentioned in my message, seems strange that she manages to list items and buy items yet cant reply to 2 previous messages sent.i cant imagine her work allowing her to sit on a computer ebaying items somehow.also the fact that i can open an item not recieved now, she was quick to reply.and like i said in my first message her feedback mentions about how she drags her feet with getting items disptached,so as sympathetic as id like to be i dont buy it

I would find it odd for anyone to be only able to use ebay at a work PC.

Snap! what sort of boss would allow that.i mean really how many households these days dont have internet access or even a mobile phone with internet, the amount of listings ive seen come from a mobile phone
  • Perhaps a neg would be too much if you do receive the item and all is well with it- the only real issues would be the rather slow postage and the lack of communication. As it's possible she may well have been ill as she said, I like to give people the benefit of the doubt. I'd personally leave a neutral and perhaps 4/5 stars for both postage and communication, which would give my impression of the transaction, which is what feedback should be used for.

No need to punish a slow seller too much if they do deliver a good service in the end.

eBay requires so much control and care to be taken over selling accounts these days that actually that seems a little bit unfair on the buyer. As Hollie says she has responsibilities when she's ill, she can't just take the day off being a mum - neither really can eBay sellers.

If someone is selling on eBay then they ought to have internet access at home, with responsibilities being what they are they can't really manage things without it.

eBay selling is more than just throwing something up on the internet, watching it sell and taking the money. It requires thought, attention and responsibility. No-one is suggesting eBay sellers should be immortal, but these kind of attitudes just seem irresponsible when someone else's money is at stake.
