council tenant needing advice!!

Hi all,
Hoping this is the right place to get some advice.
Last night whilst my 1 and 4 year old sons were in the shower I went in to wash them and as I put my hand on the door handle to our glass cubicle, the whole door exploded sending 90% of the glass showering down on my kids.
Now my 1 year old was very lucky and just received a small cut to his foot. My 4 year old was not quite so lucky (still very lucky it wasn't a lot worse) and received minor lacerations to feet, legs arm and face.
I called an ambulance who confirmed there was no glass present in the cuts and just to keep clean and covered.
This morning though upon calling the council they advised that the first inspection time available is ..... the 3rd October:eek:.
I have requested a compensation form for injuries to my children as this is the councils procedure.
My 4 year old is now scared to go to the toilet on his own as their are 2 further glass panels and he thinks they will break.
The property was adapted with the shower due to my past illness but I am now fit and well and all other adaptions have been removed.
Do you think I could push for the shower to be replaced with a bath?
Where do I stand on pushing for inspection earlier?
And would a compensation claim be the way to go?
Thanks for any advice in advance.
was going to pst pics but cant as new user..

Ring councillor.
They mayb have some sway to get someone out to inspect this potential hazard more quickly.
I assume this is a visit for an inspection by a surveyor rather than a new screen being fitted.0 -
Yeah its the surveyor I have advised I do not want new screen as the kids are so scared of it.0

OMG that's truly awful. Your poor little children, and you, must have been terrified.
In answer to your questions:
Yes, you must push to have the shower cubicle replaced with a bath
Yes, you should push for an earlier inspection. I would also go to your MP and local newspaper if necessary
Yes, a compensation claim is absolutely the way to go. The potential for serious harm to your children in that situation doesn't bear thinking about!
Good luck.0 -
Thanks Cheeky.#
been three hours since I asked fr a member of management to call me regarding inspection.
not getting my hopes up for a quick resolution...............0 -

The council is not obliged to replace the shower with a bath - they only have to repair the damage to the shower. Trying to frsutrate their attempts to repair the shower is not adivsable."You were only supposed to blow the bl**dy doors off!!"0 -
Thanks for that.
I have just had a chat with a local housing officer who has advised to see if the door is available separately so off to coram i go!!0 -

Nope you probably best letting them fix it.
BUT you can ask to have a bath put in or pay for one.0 -
O.K Coram (manufacturer) Has advised screens are only available as a complete unit which I know for a fact as I have a copy of the receipt this cost the council £480 2 yrs ago and rrp is now 448.99 +vat from manufacturer.
as this would be the case would I be better positioned to fight for a bath if under this cost?0 -
