Is it possible to claim housing benefit when living with parents? PLEASE READ

I know it is not "usual" to be able to claim it when living with your parents, but is their "certain circumstances" which there are with most benefits (examples, disability/hardship/loan parent)

I know tax credits is 25 but you can get them from 16 if ur disabled or lone parent. Is this possible with HB?

  • No, there are no circumstances where it would be possible.

Not even with a disability. Housing benefits are only paid out if there is a tenancy agreement, you can (under rare circumstances) be your parents tenant in a house they own but don't live in but there are specific regulations against claiming housing benefits for a house your parent owns when you live there with them.

Why would a parent expect money from their disabled child?

When did the OP say this? More likely they want to help out their parents any way they can because they feel bad for not being able to contribute, maybe a finantial situation recently is exasperating these feelings...

Way to put a negative slant on things, do you always think the worst of people straight away? :(

OP their may be other things you can claim, they might not be as much as HB but every little helps. We'd need to know more about you situation... be prepared to ignore negative or offensive posts though. P:

Currently on JSA, have anxiety and depression. JSA don't go very far.... get regular doctors treatment for the anxiety and depression.

Wanted to claim HB for the reason you said, to help with rent

I thought you had a job with a care agency?

Do you actually even pay rent ?
  • If your parents qualify for H/B then they would still get it if you were on JSA.
