I'd recomend F-Secure, i found that to be the one which uses the least computer resources! I found it almost impossible to remove norton!:beer:In My 'Permanant' Pre-Masters Gap Year

Yesterday I paid £60 on Nortons 380 from PC World and after my mate saw I brought Nortons he said I should take it back and download AGV which is a FREE download.
Today I took back Nortons and said I didn't want it but they said I cannot take it back because it's opened (I have not installed it).
What are my rights here. I am VERY annoyed.
Why you annoyed ?
Are you annoyed with your self or PC world ?
Well for starts you can kick yourself for not doing research and finding out that there are free alternatives available or cheaper options if norton was your thing.
You cant return it for the reasons already detailed, i believe its pretty standard in retail especially for software.
Its also Norton not Nortons.0 -
Well I looked and the replies and thanks. The other day I writted a letter of concern the head manager and delivered it to him personerly.
"Dear SIR
I brought your Nortons from you the other day and I did not need it so took it back to your customer department and they would not refund it as the cling flim wrapper was NOT on it. This should not make a differance because I did not install the software (you can check my computer).
I am looking for a refund however I am willing to only take £30 back which I will spend in your store. Please considor my refund as I do not have much money.
Many thanks

The head manager said no he could not refund the item and I said ok I will look in to this further. I thought I am stuck with Nortons which cost me £60 so I installed it but it gave me an error. It said
"Error 1935. An error occured during the installation of assembly component{98CB24AD-52FB-DB5F-A01F-C8B3B9A1E18E}
HRESULT: 0x80070002"
Now. Put it this way. This is where it can get tricky so you better get ready.
The software now is not fit for purpose! I have read that
"Under the Sale of Goods Act, the retailer must either repair or replace the goods 'within a reasonable time but without causing significant inconvenience'. If the seller doesn't do this, you are entitled to claim either:
reduction on the purchase price, or
your money back, minus an amount for the usage you've had of the goods (called 'recision')."
I told PC World about the error but they refused to refund me. Because PC world did not offer me a refund or exchange it has caused me significant inconvenience because I have had to travel by bus which has taken me lots of time to travel there and it cost me a total of £7.20 for 4 trips. Now the software IS clearly faulty and they have not offered a repair (I know you can repair CDs with a disk cleaner which removes scraches from the surface because they sell them in PC World.)
They have not either offered a refund so now I am forced to take action as I am now entitled to my money back.0 -
Again its bought not brought. You didnt say in the first post about the error. I bet PC world will be quaking in they're boots when they read the letter.0
-
Sigh,
Please re-read my previous post
CLICK THIS TO GET A REFUND FROM NORTON <-- I have put it in bold so you don't miss it this time.
You can of course continue down the route with PcWorld if you wish, but its easy for them to check the disc and try it, and call my cynical BUT I think you are trying to pull a fast one returning it as faulty when you tried to return it as opened software the first time.0 -
It's a certainty that the software is NOT faulty, it's going to be an issue with your computer.
Download the software and then try and install it, then it will tell you whether it is a faulty disc, but that doesn't matter because you are paying for the licence anyway.0 -

Now, I know that is not what you want, so why don't you click on that link that CoolHotCold has twice supplied for you?0 -

And just to clarify...Windows Installer generates a 1935 error message if it is not able to access a specific file or folder, or a specific area of the system’s registry. This error message is normally seen if the user does not have full administrative rights to the computer.“That old law about 'an eye for an eye' leaves everybody blind. The time is always right to do the right thing.”0 -

Okay, this must be trolling, right? Writted? "I brought your Nortons?"
Did OP have permission to bring the manager's Nortons? What has the manager's personal property got to do with this?"This should not make a differance because I did not install the software (you can check my computer). "
This does not mean that you haven't noted down, photographed or memorised the serial number to use as soon as you get back home.I told PC World about the error but they refused to refund me. Because PC world did not offer me a refund or exchange it has caused me significant inconvenience because I have had to travel by bus which has taken me lots of time to travel there and it cost me a total of £7.20 for 4 trips.
Based on a fault with YOUR computer, or YOUR software configuration it is not installing. That's not the fault of the software, just as somebody filling a diesel car with petrol is not the fault of the petrol. The petrol will work fine under the correct conditions.
Travelling by bus is not "significant inconvenience" or at least not an inconvenience for which PC world are responsible as you are trying to return something that is not faulty for no reason other than buyer's remorse.0
