Taking back Nortons to PC World

i use kasperky as i would not tough Norton if i was too as their techs have no idea in how norton works.
I used to be an avid norton user which i used for 6 yrs and i also resold symantec products, then on a version if NIS i had a issue that was cause problems with my computer, i contected their tech support who at first were helpful, but after 3 days solid with their techs who also tried to solve using remote access and they admitted the problem was a Norton problem, but they had no idea on how to fix it.
you can imagine my mood after 3 days with a problem caused by Norton that their techs could not fix. so i told them in no uncertain terms what they could do with thwir software and that i would no longer resell a product that their own techs had no idea how it works or how to fix problems.0 -
I had a programme which wouldn't run and none of their techs could get it to run on their machines, but they still refused to refund the £50 because it had been opened.
With the number of good free programmes available having to buy software is a rare event, but if I do need to buy anything, it won't be from them0 -
That only applies to computers/laptops/tablets etc which come with preinstalled applications and nosupporting media. e.g. digitally distributed content, it does not apply to physically purchased discs
Yes it does if the license terms are not clearly provided on printed material available to be read before opening the box or attempted installation.0 -
Norton is a bag of nails - don't install it! All it does is slow your machine down and may even cause it to stop working correctly - requiring a reformat. I have had a few too many runins with norton, I hate the rubbish.
Stick to Microsoft Security Essentials if you don't want to pay, it is free and gets good reviews (AVG is not as good as it used to be).0 -

Wrong, and wrong. Yes go back several years and I'd agree with you. But software changes and Norton and Kaspersky are the only consumer products I'd recommend.
Also getting back to the OP's question, PcWorld are under no obligation to return opened products, your only recourse is to go to the small claims court (And Loose) or Follow Nortons 60 day Money Back Guarentee.

Wrong - see I can have an opinion too
OP - you will need to make your mind up for yourself. I wouldn't touch a russian or chinese product either (but im paranoid).
I use a lot of the current security products and I would highly recommend the free MS one.
By their very nature a security product changes the state of thing it is observing (quantum physics here) you need to find the one that does the least damage. Norton DOES slow down your box quite a bit, though if your system has enough grunt you may not notice. They all do to some degree, its the nature of the beast.0 -

Bingo there, its a tradeoff between protection and speed. Now you may be right and systems are so much more powerful now the bloat of Norton doesn't seem to affect them (In which case every other manufacture of Internet Security has grown the bloat to Nortons size)0 -
As you've no recourse to take it back, you could try to sell it on ebay or something? If this is not possible, chalk it up to experience and Caveat Emptor next time.0

Yesterday I paid £60 on Nortons 380 from PC World and after my mate saw I brought Nortons he said I should take it back and download AGV which is a FREE download.
Today I took back Nortons and said I didn't want it but they said I cannot take it back because it's opened (I have not installed it).
What are my rights here. I am VERY annoyed.
Not clear why you are annoyed with the shop. You didn't do any research before buying. If you had done so you would have found that there are a number of free reputable AV programs(mind you Norton 360 does more than this). If you had then decided Norton was the product for you the you could have got it cheaper than this, again by doing some research first. Because you didn't do so it is the shop's fault that you want to open it and then try to return it. How do they know, in any event, you haven't installed it?0 -
If you were a retailer would you take something back that was opened and nothing wrong with it ???
Unfortunately you paid more than you should have done but you must of been happy at the time.0
