Taking back Nortons to PC World

Options
Yesterday I paid £60 on Nortons 380 from PC World and after my mate saw I brought Nortons he said I should take it back and download AGV which is a FREE download.

Today I took back Nortons and said I didn't want it but they said I cannot take it back because it's opened (I have not installed it).

What are my rights here. I am VERY annoyed.

  • Why are you VERY annoyed? As you've opened the packaging you can't return it because you've changed your mind. PC World have done nothing wrong.

software, once opened is not covered for returns.

AVG is all well and good, but it doesn't do EVERYTHING in the Norton product, there's plenty of free anti virus, AVG, Avast etc etc - Norton 360 is a product suite containing a number of features only available int he paid versions of AVG, Avast etc. basic anti viruses are free, advanced features cost.

You have no option to return it unless the disc is faulty and in those scenarios you are entitled to a replacement, refund is not an option on this type of purchase....no matter how angry you are.

    PC World T&Cs state:-

    We cannot refund/cancel your purchase:
    • If you return your product to a store without proof of purchase
    • There is a contract for services with the product and you have started using the services; this would include, for example, a mobile phone subscription
    • The seal has been broken on any DVDs, CDs, memory cards or software, including games, or on any personal hygiene products such as shavers
    • The goods were a special order to your specification

Did you break the seal on your Norton 360 product?

BTW AVG free is not very good, folks here tend to recommend Avast, or you could try Microsoft Security Essentials.
I do use Norton Internet Security around £20 at Amazon for the 2011 product with a 3 PC licence.

IIRC if you don't agree to the terms of licence that pops up when you install the software you can take if back for a refund, i may be wrong but im sure i have heard it mentioned before

That only applies to computers/laptops/tablets etc which come with preinstalled applications and nosupporting media. e.g. digitally distributed content, it does not apply to physically purchased discs

No he can't. He has no statutory right to return goods to a shop if he changes is mind, and PC world don't accept returns under their own returns policy on these products.

    He has no recourse.

regardless the licence you agree or disagree is from Symantec (norton) and not the retailer. how does the retailer not know that you have opened the software, installed this on your computer and then are returning the software disc for a refund while you have the product for FREE.

this is why ANY software retailer will NOT accept returns of ANY software in which the seal is broken (opened)

Mind you £60! Its only £31 at Amazon, less if you buy something for £30 at the same time.
    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Norton-v5-0-User-Year-Subscription/dp/B004L2KQ5W/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1316370487&sr=8-1

Just goes to show PC Dixons Curry World is best avoided, or price check before purchase.
