What part of asdas coupon policy says they will accept coupons that won't scan and have invalid barcodes?

All stores have a policy of not accepting coupons if there is any doubt about them. It not scanning and having an invalid barcode is reasonable doubt to me.

To be fair, I would guess ScarletRaven was referring to my coupon that did scan (the second pizza coupon I tried).

Yes, that is what I was referring to. The pizza coupons are widely circulated by a well-known company at the moment. Some have had trouble getting them to scan, others haven't, but they are clearly legit coupons (unless of course someone has photocopied them, in which they have every right to be refused). They all have their own individual, trackable barcodes making duplication difficult anyway.

I've also known instances were it is simply the cashier not scanning the right barcode on these types of coupons (scanning the trackable barcode for the individual rather than the product barcode) which of course won't work, but they refuse them not realising the mistake they're making.

I've 6 years experience in customer services for another large supermarket chain, and most stores have similar rules and policies, but you still find staff not adhering to those policies for a number of reasons (lack of training, laziness, plain old jobsworth syndrome, etc ;) ) Seen it happen many times, as I've often been the one customers come to with the complaint. I'd say 8 times out of 10 it's the cashier that was in the wrong rather than the customer in my experience of dealing with these things.

Yes but the second time you tried to use the voucher you had already gained a reputation for trying to pass dodgy ones the first time. That casts doubt on your second one. :D

Seriously tho' why try to scan a coupon you don't accept? Or was it that the assistant scanned it, not knowing it would not be accepted, and the till said they were not accepting them?

Dodgy ones! How very dare you lol !

I tried using different coupons on different days as I only took one with me the first time. The first attempt it didn't scan for me, the assistant came over to try scanning and entering the barcode. It seems at this point the store were accepting these coupons and I would have got the money off had the barcode been valid. I have no idea what's going on with the coupon not having a valid barcode, that's something I would have to contact Dr Oetker about if I can stomach any more hassle lol.

The second attempt was a few days later, I scanned the coupon (which the self scan till accepted) but in Asda an assistant always has to authorise it. It was at this point the assistant said she didn't think they were accepting them and went away to check then came back and told me they are not accepting these coupons.

It is a nightmare using vouchers sometimes as some stores only accept 'safe coupon' ones and others take any - but again this can still vary depending which till supervisor is on.

It would be easier if everyone stuck to the same policy in the same chain of shops. Half the time I don't think the checkout staff and supervisors even know their own policies!!

I too have experience in CS and as a cashier, and the overriding policy for coupons in my chain, and the chains some of my friends work in, is if you have any doubt about the coupons validity then do not accept it, refer it to someone higher.

You say that 8 out of 10 times the cashier is in the wrong, but what you mean is 8 out of 10 times the coupon turns out to be valid. You say the cashier do it because of lack of training, laziness, plain old jobsworth syndrome, etc, but could it not be they are doing it because they have a doubt and are following the policy for what to do when they have a doubt. Perhaps it's just you thinking the worst of your colleagues when they are just doing what they are trained to do.

I won't ask which chain you work for, but can you state what the policy is when the cashier has a doubt about a coupon?

This is my point, the assistant had a doubt and checked with someone before accepting/declining the coupon. This is exactly what they are supposed to do.

I doubt the reason given was true tho, more likely to be the person knew/thought they were not to be accepted but didn't know the reason why, so just made one up. People, including me, who work in shops do it every day. Sometimes you don't know the true answer, but have to give one, sometimes you do know the true answer, but don't think you get paid enough to tell it to the customer.

Imagine you are working on a till and a customer hands you a coupon you believe might be a fake. You know you can't accept it, but what do you say to the customer?

    "I'm sorry, I think that's a fake so I can't accept it"

    or

"I'm sorry, head office have said we don't accept those coupons any more"

It's the same if you are a supervisor and the cashier asks you to check the coupon, do you tell the customer you think they are trying to "pull a fast one" or do you refuse the coupon and blame head office?

This often happens from a link... Type savemore beforeishop into google and click the link from there, usually works, did for me showing 3 offers as mentioned by Aesop

I think the Danio one has gone - when I click on it, it says "sorry, this promotion is now over".
