Just what else do you want me to say?

I'm still looking for the bit where the OP said they had failed the medical. (That is why I said "on the information given").

Taking your train of thought if we send our licence back for a change of address we should stop driving until it is returned. Especially since the DVLA sometimes manage to drop entitlements off your licence.

.. you'll then find out the reason you didn't get your licence back is because they didn't renew it which then means you're uninsured and whilst the insurers would pay out the third party, they'd then sue you for the money they paid out.

This may or not be true, depending on the certificate wording

Insurance is NOT automatically invalidated if no current licence is held. Look at the wording on this one: http://www.northumbria.ac.uk/static/5007/finpdf/insuranceCertificate.pdf which covers anyone "Provided that the person driving holds a licence to drive the vehicle or has held and is not disqualified from holding or obtaining such a licence". This wording is fairly common and I've certainly seen it on my policies in the past. It would seem to provide cover even if the driver's licence had expired (due to age) or even been revoked (eg: due to medical reasons).

Age and medical are grounds for being disqualified from holding a licence though.

However the DVLA have not yet disqualified the OP, so I guess it's ok?

Its depend on the reason, why you have sent your licence back to the DVLA....You may ask them to give a written statement in the return of licence... some kind of duplicate or something like that.. and then you may drive having that statement along with you..

They don't need to take a medical. The information merely needs to be accessed from the health records.

Yes, thankyou for posting it. Not having your licence renewed because of a medical condition IS classed as being disqualified from holding such a licence.

Do you have a source for that?

The directgov website clearly talks about revokation (not disqualification) for medical conditions http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Motoring/DriverLicensing/MedicalRulesForDrivers/DG_4022417

    And never will.

    Courts disqualify, DVLA revoke.;)

And they revoke (in this case) because of what? Because a medical condition means that the person may not meet the minimum requirements to be able to drive

The minimum qualifications, you could say.

Ok - the update is.........spoke to person at DVLA and they said that after several letters to my neurologist, her secretary is now finally going to remind my doc to complete DVLA form. In the meantime I can use the letter they sent me (some months back) as a cover note. This will suffice if I get stopped by the police. They assured me that everything is in hand and I shouldn't worry. So I can continue to drive without a licence.
