No Driving Licence

I had to send my licence back to the DVLA in May, but as yet haven't had a new one sent. I have asked them twice now, when I will get it back and can I keep driving, to which they had said 'not sure' and 'yes' to those questions.

Can I still drive without a physical licence? What if the police stop me and ask for my licence (Probably not going to happen, but you never know)? Every time I get in the car I wonder if I should be driving!

A lot will depend on the reason why you had to send the licence back.

Oh yes, should have said - I have a degenerative disease called FA, and have to submit my licence every year for medical approval.

    Much too long!
You need to deal with it NOW, before you need to show a Policeman, and the DVLA says you don't have one.
It's happened before to other people so don't trust them.

You need to contact DVLA as you may be driving without a licence if they have not yet renewed your licence. Phone them on 0300 790 6806 as they will be able to look up and see what stage the process is at.

I wouldn't drive until you've got it back. They may have witheld it and revoked/suspended it on medical grounds.

Do you really think so? They haven't said I can't. I have an appt tomorrow, which I have to go to, so I'll have to drive.

Are the DVLA saying they didn't receive your licence?
They loose stuff all the time, which is why most of this forum know to always send anything to the DVLA by recorded/signed for post :/

Drive carefully and don't have an accident. Sods law guarantees that if you do, you'll then find out the reason you didn't get your licence back is because they didn't renew it which then means you're uninsured and whilst the insurers would pay out the third party, they'd then sue you for the money they paid out.
