Well, losing the one day will mean that i have enough to cover my liabilities, with a very small surplus for "spends", but without struggling. If i had to cover the childcare too, then it would be very very tight, and no spends at all for me.
DH currently manages to end the month with probably upwards of £700 left over after spends. I manage £200 if i am very lucky.
I think DH is probably OK with it- he does say he sees his money as my money (which is nice), so it makes less difference to him how it is split cos in his eyes its the same, but i'm never really comfortable asking him to give me money to pay for things, which i would need to do if i physically paid the childcare and took the salary hit.
Am sure it will all work out....

I do know how you feel in that respect, my OH is the most generous soul ever but I gave up my job to move here and was living on savings, which were just paying my bills and no more before I got my maternity allowance, and if I needed anything at all, I felt awful asking him, so was going without so much. I feel so much more comfortable now that I can pay my way. So even though he is of the mind "it's OUR money" I still feel how you do. I guess it just takes a bit of getting used to :o plus it won't be forever, baby will be at school before you know it

On other more interesting matters, triggered by your post Gilly, usually if DH and i arent at friends for dinner on NYE, we cook a nice meal in. I was just fantasising what my dream meal would be tomorrow night if i didnt still have bean in occupation restricting my food consumption capacity, choices, capability to cook it, and alcohol

Probably, fresh seafood platter, with fresh dressed crab, and huge prawns and loads of marie rose sauce made with proper mayo, and brown bread and butter.
Followed by... Ummmmm.. a huge rare rib eye steak, with beef dripping cooked chunky chips, and some nice veg,
and pudding.... A nice big pavlova with fresh chewy home made meringues, and oodles of sweetened whipped cream, and fresh fruit.

Washed down with a few bottles of crabbies and a bottle of bubbly for afters, and some cherry liqueur chocolates. Droooolll..

  • Aaw Gilly, I love the bouncer :)

Been to M&S today for party food for tomorrow night, had loads of breaded cheese which looked amazing, but don't think it's safe to eat when pregnant so gutted about having to avoid that.

Did treat myself to a pair of jeans and 3 Blooming Marvellous tops from Mothercare. I know there's only 4 weeks left but I'm so sick of wearing the same stuff over and over. It was all 70% off too so reasonable prices today. Came to just over £40 in total for the 4 things, and I had money given at Xmas anyway so that paid for it. They can all be worn after Bump arrives anyway I guess :)

Hope Boldies get their baby cuddles soon!xxx

    Ooh yummy.

We're having (well if I get my way  ) stuffed peppers with savoury rice and cheese, rib eye steak with mash, roasties, seasonal veg, pepper sauce and home made crusty wheaten bread with loads of butter, and then individual choc fudge cakes with whipped cream and berries. We are also pushing the boat out and we've bought 2 bottles of Shloer :o :rotfl:

Bought it all tonight, and a rather boring Chicken Roast on New years Day.

Will need to be up at the crack of dawn tomorrow to get it all made. :o

Mmmmmmmmm... sounds good! I struggle getting a bowl of cereal from the kitchen now let along cooking a 3 course meal- and shopping in sainsbo's is impossible!

Funny, we are pushing the boat out too with 2 bottles of schloer! DH cant drink in case he needs to drive us to the hospital. We do have half a joint of roast beef for tomorrow that we had for dinner tonight..

It's all fun and games being pregnant isn't it :p I'm not too bad at the moment, can still potter about, but then I don't feel too big, so maybe that's why :o

I know I have the champagne glasses at the ready for our Schloer! :o

Mmm the talk of food is making me hungry, esp the dressed crab and prawns. We never go out normally on nye,we did last year for the first time in years to see Alexander oneal. Was going to get a Chinese takeaway tomorrow but now having a Chinese meal out with the fam on Sunday as its hubby's birthday on Monday. To be honest I'd be very happy with a KFC tomorrow lol.

    Love the baby chair gilly:)

We were going to stay in tomorrow but we're going round to some friends now who are having a bit of a party. Luckily they only live five mins away and I will be able to drive so as long as I have a snooze tomorrow afternoon I'm happy to go. Will be quite nice to do something different to be honest, as I think we've stayed in for the last three years in a row! I've never been that bothered by NYE though, I hate going out in town...

There is nowhere for me and OH to go really and he is working at half 8 on NYD  I did suggest maybe dinner or something, but by the looks of things most places are closing earlyish here. I don't mind staying in I guess, I have stayed in the past few years.

I am such a greedy cow, had toast for breakfast, a bacon sarnie for lunch, and half a portion of fish and chips for dinner, and just sent OH to the chippy for a chicken burger :o No idea how I haven't put on stones, seriously!
