Are there certain jobs that are affected by bankruptcy

A lot of info on here is "old" now. Things have changed a lot. Bankruptcy is more seen as a welfare matter by large government organisations. However, most would want to see you discharged before accepting new applications.

With regard to Police Officers... it's a very grey area and one that the Federation can't advise on. I know a currently serving officer who is on the verge of bankruptcy, he called the Fed Rep and was told "we don't know" when he asked if he'd be sacked or not.
As a few people have mentioned, the force has relaxed somewhat, the global recession affected everyone and Police Officers are people too, yes Professional Standards will investigate the root cause and also the activity of the person concerned with regard to why it happened but the final decision rests with each force.
As a matter of interest, whilst researching the subject, i found he following advice published by the UK Insolvency Helpline...
http://www.insolvencyhelpline.co.uk/debt_advice_for_police_officers/index.php
I also found similar guidelines elsewhere but i'll be !!!!!!ed if i can find the site concerned.
It appears to be a very hazy area but, hopefully, common sense will prevail when it's needed. Police Officers are people just like the rest of us.0
