Are there certain jobs that are affected by bankruptcy

For example can you go bankrupt if you are a prison warden? Someone told me that you can't be bankrupt if you are a police officer too?

I'm a civil servant and I wouldn't lose my job, but wouldn't be able to do any job which had accounting as part of it. However, that in effect means I lose my job as nearly every civil service job has some sort of budgetary task.

I am training to be an accountant, and would probably have issues with becoming chartered if I became bankrupt.

You are not allowed to be bankrupt as a Police Officer. You would face disciplinary action and almost certain 'sacking'.

You can however go down the IVA route as a Police Officer.

i dont think you can join the police in any department if you go bankrupt thats what stopped me going bankrupt not that i think i will ever join but its always been a dream and i didnt want to shatter the dream

Out of curiosity - why not.

I know I cant do bankrupt or IVA at the moment - working for the evil force that is MBNA

There are many people at MBNA who are B and have IVA's...

Hi Mae,
Bankruptcy will certainly cause problems if you are planning to enter the police force or any of the tri-forces as it is seen to be a security risk. Other occupations were bankruptcy will cause problems are legal positions, accountancy, financial services, politicians and some civil servant roles.

Seriously? I was under the impression that, as working with credit cards and dealing with other peoples finances etc it wsnt possible. It was actually what i was lead to believe. Even if i did go down that route now, MBNA wouldnt be too impressed given i have a card with them.

I am aware that if you have gone bankrupt and the position you are going for is in any way related to financial accounting,that you must declare this to the prospective organisation in the interview process.
It does not automatically exclude you from the shortlist, as it would be addressed in the interview process, and you would have to supply the bankruptcy papers prior to employment.

Potential Organisations would still consider you as a viable candidate if your skills and work experience were relevant.

Bankruptcy should always be the last resort and not the easy out!
