Guys
I've finally got the OH to agree to a holiday given we've not had one for 2 years and it's been a hard year!
I want to go to the above places however while I can afford 2 weeks i don't wish to leave our kitten for that long!
The reason for the above 2 places is for scuba diving mainly
Would you go to either for 7 days? due to the flight time?
I wont do egypt because I am a total food snob
Cheers guys

Flight time? Fly to Mexico and you get there a few hours after you leave, fly to Male' and you get there ages after you left.
Personally I'd go to Mexico over the Maldives, unless it was my honeymoon - Or I'd won the lottery.0 -
Either. Both beautiful. We regularly fly long haul for one week breaks. Believe me, it's always worth it!
Have a great time.0 -
BA fly to both the Maldives and Cancun, which means you don't have to stick to 7/14 nights and could maybe consider 9/10 nights. Personally I find 12 nights about right for a long haul beach holiday!0

No..wouldnt go to either.
I dont really like places where tranquil oasis have been created for tourists whilst outside the gates, misery and poverty reigns.
Be careful scuba diving..Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..0 -

So your cure to end the poverty is not to spend there at all?
Do you realise that nearly all the Mayan Mexicans rely on tourism for their income? Nearly everybody is employed by it in someway.
As for Scuba, I was taught in Mexico and did not have any issues with the safety.0 -
OP if you decide on Mexico then I would recommend Playa del Carmen instead of Cancun. It is a much more relaxed resort and still has some Mexican charm.
Have a look at this forum dedicated to it: http://www.playa.info/0 -
Well I've never been to either (they're on my bucket list), but I'd choose Mexico, as from what I've heard there ain't a lot to do in the Maldives. I cannot do sitting by the pool & prefer to go off & adventure & mix with the locals. I went to Hawaii for 6 days & it was one hell of a jaunt, but I'd do it all again if I had to.0

Both are a long way to go for 7 nights.
We went to Cancun in July, flew BA, booked the hotel through Expedia and went for 11 nights, which was perfect.
Have a good time

I agree with your outlook.
However, the Maldives has about as much misery and poverty as the UK: maybe less. And Mexico is a long way from the bottom, although it is such a fascinating country that I would not want to stay in a tourist enclave.0
