washing machine not taking in fabric conditioner

Hi there ,
I hope this is in the right section of the forum!
I have a samsung q1235v washing machine which I bought secondhand , so don't have a manual for it.
The fabric conditioner just stays in the drawer in a gloopy mess at the end of the wash, I have tried unclogging all the water jets in the roof of the drawer , but it has made no difference .
If anyone has any ideas I would be very grateful , as the washing is coming out not smelling as nice as it should , and I am wasting fabric conditioner (so just not using any at the moment).

I'm no washing machine expert and my knowledge only extends to dirty clothes go in, clean clothes come out but I have heard people suggest taking the dispenser out and giving it a spray with bleach-based cleaner, Flash/Cif type thing followed by a scrub with a toothbrush. Once that's done leave it to soak in hot soapy water before popping it back in.

If you still have probems then fill the dispenser tray with the same bleach-based cleaner or white vinegar and put the machine on an empty 60+ degree wash.
  • thank you , but I have done all of the above !!
  • You may find that the hole that fills the conditioner part of the dispenser is blocked - usually with slime/mould (in my case anyway).

I have found that the only way to clear ours is to give the hole a blast with a cannister of compressed gas (used for blowing dust). The tube just fits up the hole nicely.

Follow that up with a good clean, i.e. remove drawer, wash well, and then spray with anti fungal stuff, give it a couple of rinses without any clothes, and then you should be OK.

Your mileage may vary, but that is what I have to do to ours every once in a while.

I also find it helps to keep the drawer slightly open when the washer is not in use.

    Hope that helps,

    Regards,

  • would that be the hole in the drawer itself or just underneath when you pull the drawer out ?
    thanks for your reply .

IIRC the fabric conditioner is moved into the drum by syphoning - the water comes out of holes in the roof of the draw, this raises the level of liquid in the draw, which then over flows, through the hole in the base of the draw (which is often covered by a loose fitting cap which creates a syphon), can you confirm OP that you have cleaned both lots of holes?

Also, if any washing powder gets mixed with the conditioner, it will thicken it so much it can't be syphoned out - some concentrated conditioners will need to be thinned before they dispense properly.
Please forgive me if my comments seem abrupt or my questions have obvious answers, I have a mental health condition which affects my ability to see things as others might.

Hi - I was assuming that the syphon hole in the drawer itself was clear. I was talking about a hole in the roof of the bit where the drawer fits that squirts water onto the conditioner, thus triggering the syphon.

It is quite a small hole in our machine....

Remove the dispenser drawer, and have a look - you should be able to spot it, and if it is surrounded by black mould, then I would say it may be blocked...

    Have fun,

    White.
  • thanks santer I will look at those later on.
Raksha , yes I have cleaned both sets , which is why I am a bit puzzled !
and thank you again whitefiver , where would I be able to buy compressed gas ?

Give it a go with a cocktail stick - you may be lucky. I happened to have some gas (sold at the likes of PC world) and probably cheaper via ebay (examples).

Most stationers/hardware stores sell canned air. But first take the drawer out and clean that way-you can't do it properly in situ.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
