LOL- cant wait myself...
Poor Lucy still makes it up and down the stairs seeral times per day (my daughter's flat is over 2 levels) - Lucy likes the bedroom (with people) but when she is too hot she goes downstairs and sleepn in the kitchen table or bathroom tiles.....
I REALLY need a home for Lucy, ideally with one of the kitties of course.... 8-9 weeks after she gives birth of course, would not want to move her now ....
But - where are those kitties?
You see the size of her? But as I said, she is very small herself, very petite.. and such a sweetie, loves people and cuddlesm does not hiss at Fiona any more, in fact by the way they 2 are together - looks like Fiona will be a midwife, she is always stuck to Lucy's bum bits LOL
Phoebe and Lucy just ignore one another...
But as I said, with her 2 cats my daughter is absolutely not in a position to keep Lucy... Neither am I - already have a problem with Chloe and Zara (someoen deleted my thread here but... pls have a look: http://www.purrsinourhearts.co.uk/index.php/topic,39159.0.html) there is no way I can take on another cat, put Zara, the cat (and myself) through "lets try" - no way... and Lucy needs a home, she is absolutely lovely0 -
Wow I really feel for you! I have read the whole thread and firstly I must say I am so pleased that Lucy is being looked after inside, even if it is just a short term thing.
Lucy is likely to be more defensive at the moment (hence the hissing) because of being pregnant. She needs to feel safe, which hopefully she does, but little things like feeding her away from your daughter's two cats and investing in a second litter tray for her should help a little.
I currently have four cats (two black females, one black male and a tortie female) who were all rescues. A few weeks ago I started fostering for Animals In Need (based in Northants) and have had kittens (with their mum) from the age of 5 weeks. They are incredibly cute and wonderful to watch play, but a word of warning, they can create a real mess! None of the three kittens were litter trained (the fourth kitten I have been given to look after recently who is 9 weeks old isn't either!) and you can imagine the mess....puddles and piles everywhere. If you watch them you get to know when they want the look (squeak squeak sniff sniff!) and you can just pick them up (quickly!) and put them in the tray. After doing that a few times it SHOULD teach them, however this failed for two of mine. I am currently taking the advice of the charity coordinator and doing what is called 'crating'. This involves putting the kittens in a cage with a bed, food, water and litter tray in and leaving them in there for a few days. They don't like it and I felt cruel, but it does work and it is worth it in the end. They soon learn where to do their businessThe trouble with this is while they are feeding from their mum they cannot be seperated from her, so she would need to stay in the cage as well. I am telling you all this because it would be an idea to get hold of a cage and something to cover the floor with, preferably keeping them in one room temporarily to prevent the mess going everywhere!
I hope my two pence worth helped in some wayJust remember what you are your daughter are doing is brilliant
:T:T
Edit: I have just sent the coordinator for the charity I foster for and asked her if there is any advice I can pass on to you. I will post on here as soon as I get a response. Also I wanted to say that I am very pleased to hear that you intend to get Lucy neutered once the kittens are old enough. There are so many unwanted kittens because people don't get their cats done and they go out and get pregnant. Kittens get euthanized every year because there just isn't the space. It's tragic.A Bag A Month Challenge member0 -
Thanks everyone
I have brought up a few litters of kittens in my life time but Lucy is not here - my daughter and her b/f work Mon-Fri so they are nto there to watch Lucy or later the kitties 24/7 - unfortunately.
Never had problem with kitties where mum did not teach them to use the litter tray so far - will see, Lucy is a baby herself.
Lucy eats fine with the other 2 girls, she just does not want to socialise with them LOL
My daughter has food/water for them both upstairs and downstairs and 3 litter trays anyway.
I was looking into getting a crate for Lucy to have the kitties in actually but may not have enough time now.
I have one of my boys, George on crate rest for 6 weeks (just 2 weeks gone today, another 4 to go) following a leg op...borrowed a crate for a friend, nice large size (My GS Zara would fit into this one).
MY daughter for 3 boxes with blankets inside around her flat for Lucy to have kitties in but Lucy is not interested in them as yet - she likes to sleep on the bed with my daughter and her b/f.. she is really such a lovely little purring kitty....0 -
Poor George! Did you have an accident?
It sounds like you've got a lot of experience with cats and it's clear you are an animal lover. If only there were more people like you and your daughter who would take cats in like this-even if on a temporary basis.
I haven't heard back from the Charity coordinator yet. She works full time as well as arranging rehoming and fostering so she is a busy bee!
the main thing is your daughter has given Lucy somewhere safe to stay for now :-)A Bag A Month Challenge member0 -
Oh I really want Lucy (or a kitten), but I'm moving house at the moment and have to settle my current one in. How long would you have Lucy before rehoming her? I'm in hospital for three weeks in January as well, so it's really awkward timing."There is no medicine like hope, no incentive so great, and no tonic so powerful as expectation of something better tomorrow." - Orison Swett Marden0
