  • If Greece go officially bankrupt. Will this effect our economy...?
  • Bearing in mind the exposure of EU banks to greek debt, one would say, most definately.

Has any body on here lost there jobs recently or is any one having to give their notice in.

Apparently we are heading in for a depression and not a recession.

" A recession is when you neighbour loses you job and a depression is when you lose your job"

Not a lot of people seem to be loosing their jobs at the moment in comparison to the retracting growth in the economy, Surely this is a good thing...?

I know apprentices who are being laid off along with everybody else in the construction industry.

Jimmy, it really must be difficult in the construction industry at the moment and I obviously have sympathy for anyone who has lost their job in any industry. But, whilst things aren't perfect, we have to remember that they're aren't 'a lot' of people losing their jobs. The one interesting aspect of this recession is that whilst people are seeing pay freezes or even salary cuts, unemployment hasn't risen that drastically.

I appreciate that there are certain industries, construction most definitely one of them, that has bit hit hard, but 'most people' have kept their jobs.

This isn't obviously me saying everything is sweetness and light, just providing a bit of realism.

Yes, there is no automatic reason why there should be lots of job losses in a recession. If people face the fact that the country isn't quite as rich as it was, and there isn't so much money to go round, so they might have to suffer a pay freeze or even cut, then there should be no need for job losses. I think most private sector workers have realised this, maybe time the public sector did instead of playing blame games...

    My statement still stands.

Another NW construction company is ready for going under pretty soon, around 400 employees work there.

Your statement around construction obviously stands, as it's a very hard hit industry. Your statement questioning someone who said that 'not a lot of people have lost their jobs' doesn't stand though, as most people haven't lost their jobs when you look at all industries.
