You have shown that your knowledge on this subject is zilch, so why advise others!

Why do you think that they charge a different rate for data on these SIMS?
Because I never had any problems when I used a virgin mobile add on in my dongle.

but this has been occasional use.

I use my "3" PAYG SIM both tethered by Bluetooth to a laptop and sometimes in a dongle or a MiFi type device.

This isn't everyday usage, it is more on an occasional basis when away from home.

I guess there are trigger levels of use which draw the attention of "3" to phone SIMs and I haven't hit them.

If you haven't already bought the dongle and your phone does Bluetooth that would be the approach I would recommend.

To add Bluetooth to a laptop I've used the "Belkin Mini Bluetooth Adapter * Class 2; 10M" as sold by Amazon. I previously had a different "low profile" Bluetooth adaptor but found the software a bit poor. The Belkin comes with a disk which "just worked" on XP.
  • Right I got my new E586 dongle on 3 today, works great, however, I can confirm my mobile phone sim card doesn't work in this dongle, so there you go.

I've been using a 'mobile' sim in a midi for months
on the old 5 quid for 2 gb path option, also been using the
15 quid all you can eat plan since it came out..

Maybe the truck is to get hold of one of the older sims..
