There has been a car (MG) outside my drive very close to the enterance of my drive for about 4 months - I think it belongs to someone who lives nearby but not a neighbour i know. The Tax runs out the end of SEPT, one tyer is flat. Is there anything I can do now or when the tax runs out? Who shouldcontact?

Your local council will have an abandoned vehicles section; you could contact them now if you wished.

When the tax runs out, I imagine that you could report it to DVLA but I'm not sure whether they'd act on such information or who in particular you would contact.

The council will check with the police and if the vehicle is insured and taxed they will not be able to do anything. If it isn't taxed/insured they will put a notice on it giving the owner x days (usually 7) to remove it. After that they can remove it and scrap it.

Once the tax runs out, you can report it as untaxed online via the DVLA website. They can remove it just for being untaxed, whether it is insured or not.

Tony is correct. Personally i'd wait until the tax runs out, nobody will have much interest until then unless there are obvious signs that its been broken in to or stolen.

As soon as the tax runs out the DVLA will action it. We had one on our road that went pretty quickly as soon as the tax disc expired.

No you can't, even the Police can not check if it has insurance unless they are with the car and the owner.

You also can not do this for a car you do not own!

The original answer was the right one, contact the council but if the car is taxed and not causing an obstruction or offence (double yellows, blocking dropped kerb etc) it has every right to be parked on the road.

    OOOh naughty ! :D
  • When this happened to us I called the council after a week or so and they couldn't do anything. They said to call the police if it was causing an obstruction, the car also had flat tyres. After another week I did actually call the police and it turned out it had been stolen, they collected it within 30 mins and left me feeling guilty for not reporting it much sooner!

That's a pain, I thought when askMID was first set up, you could check the other car in the event of an accident. Now a one-off enquiry is £3.75.
