In house less than a week and boiler broken down!!!

I know there's no advice anyone can give, and nothing I can do...but I needed a rant!
We just bought our new house. We only moved in on Saturday and on Wednesday (yesterday) the boiler broke down. It just won't turn on, not a peep out of it, nothing. We have no hot water or heating just in time for our first weekend in the house.
Got a British Gas engineer coming this morning (hopefully!) to look at it and we are hoping against hope that it will be something simple that can be easily fixed...but it's not likely. When looking through the various appliance instructions etc that the vendors left for us in a box, we found the form from when they had the boiler serviced this May, and on it has been written that they recommend that the system is replaced (which obviously they didn't follow up as they were moving out)
Obviously I knew owning your own house was expensive but in the first week?!?!?! AAARRRGGHHH!!!!!!!

Been there, done that! My sympathies.
But, while you are having it repaired now why not take out a policy with BG to look after the system for the future? You do not have to say you have seen the previous report.
I have their 400 policy and I've been pleasantly surprised at what it covers. (I do not work for them).0 -
arent the sellers supposed to put this sort of thing on the pack - thing they have answer????0

Its was only a recommendation,you may regret getting BG out,they're notorious for condemning old systems(5yrs+) they no longer stock parts for.
Best bet would have been to get a local plumber etc out,my boiler is 15+yrs old.Official MR B fan club,dont go............................0 -

They had to answer "has the boiler been serviced in the last year?" and they answered "yes", which was absolutely true.0 -

Boiler is 17 years old. We always knew this and were intending to replace it (we'd rather have a combination boiler anyway) but hoped to get into the new year before shelling out for a new one.
Didn't realise that about British Gas - damn! They were just the ones we could phone at 11pm last night and get someone out this morning. Don't know any local plumbers etc and it seemed like the simple option

My system is about the same age,its a gloworm.Had to pcb replaced last year,was worried about parts etc.Plumber said the old systems are less complicated when things go wrong,and spares still readily available,then got talking about BG etc.Official MR B fan club,dont go............................0 -

Oh, ours is a gloworm too. Thanks for the advice. If BG are no good it might be worth getting someone else in then before deciding to replace it.0 -
BG are about 4000% dearer than a normal gas safe engineer.

Seriously BG may try to tell its goosed and tout you for a new boiler etc.
Unless it the gas control valve,large cost everything else is cheap on them.
Depending on the model,does it fire up?usually the fan goes,this needs to be running to initiate fire up sequence.Official MR B fan club,dont go............................0
