Hi, glad you got it sorted! We bought our house in 1996 and also noted that the old boiler needed replacing. However, it has been very reliable with infrequent servicing (I think 3 times in 15 yrs!) and we've finally got around getting a new one - to be fitted tomorrow!!! I hope that the new combi will prove to be as good as otherwise I shall be saying, well... the old one never broke down.... Looking forward to have decent pressure on the shower though....(!)

The plumbings a little funny in places, so we have next to no hot water pressure off the boiler...running a bath takes 15 minutes.

    ..

I had this problem, turns out that whoever fitted the boiler hadn't set the gas pressures correctly, got a local heating company to have a look and it was fixed in about 15 minutes! :T

... The spotlights in the kitchen keep blowing. The last bulb we replaced lasted two days. A sure sign of defective wiring somewhere.
You are very mistaken. Bulbs can blow frequently if they are cheap or if the supply voltage to the house is too high. I cannot think of a single fault with housewiring which will cause bulbs to blow.

We had these bulbs inset in the ceiling and they blew all the time until we found that insulation had been put over the light fittings making them overheat.

Yes, I'm afraid so -

And I'm in no way recommending this at all!

The new boiler will be serviced more regularly - I promise!!!

It's just that the old one has been ticking along without any problems whatsoever... you know, don't fix (touch) it if it's not broken...:p
