Hi guys
I'm going to add this thread to our main Kindle one and will put the link into our list of free books in the first post.
And remember...
TIP: At the bottom of a given book's main page there is a section entitled "Customers who bought this book also bought..." So especially if you are looking at a free book there are likely to be a number of other similar and free books there.Hi, I'm a Board Guide on the Old Style and the Consumer Rights boards which means I'm a volunteer to help the boards run smoothly and can move and merge posts there. I'm a Kindle lover. Great when you're stuck for a read to be able to instantly download a new book. But beware..I almost got carried away once by looking at a title only...on closer inspection it turned out to be a child's pop-up fairy story. The Kindle doesn't have a hinged front...!
Also someone mentioned the page turning bars get in the way when you're holding it. Solution is to reverse the type (upside down) so you can hold the Kindle at the 'bottom' edge instead.Yes, I usually tell it as I see it and respond where I see the need, but never are my comments ment to be taken personally.0 -

It's great to get free books -- but may I make a suggestion? Please, please do buy some books as well. Remember that writers have to make a living, and that living is calculated as a percentage of the cost of a book - royalties! In the past, with traditional publishing, royalties were only, usually, about 8% of the cover price of a paperback. With ebooks, it's more. Many heretofore unpublished writers are now jumping on the e-publishing bandwagon, and are setting their books as free as an introduction. Later they will raise the prices.
As for very cheap books, especially novels: very often, the quality of the writing is not good, as the books have not been edited; this is the famous "slush pile". For an excellent book by an author who has taken care over the writing and invested much time and energy into the preparation of the book, you will still have to pay.
So, enjoy your free books as much as you like, but please don't neglect other authors who still need to put food on the table!

I'm another one who swore to stick with hard copy books. However, I bought a Kindle recently and fell instantly in love!
And then, on a plane flight from London to Frankfurt, the screen got damaged and it was unusable. I was inconsolable and almost bought a new one -- but them I called Amazon and guess what? They replaced it immediately, free of charge, no questions asked!
I'm now buying a protective cover for it. But because of that excellent customer service it does make sense to buy from Amazon and not other retailers.
Edited to add: my new Kindle just arrived -- on Monday morning! I only notified them yesterday, Sunday. Amazing service!0
