Provisional driver caught driving alone....

6 points on provisional would be carried onto new licence would they not...therefore once test passed licence taken away as new learners only allowed 6 in first 24 months? Then I think they stay on for at least 4 years so effectively banned from driving for that length of time?
Is that right?
No. Once a full licence is obtained, the 6 points would remain on the licence for 4 years but are only active for 3 years from the date of the offence.
In the first 2 years after getting the full licence, any further points would result in the licence being revoked, i.e. they would have to pass the theory/practical test again to get a full licence back. If they then got more points within the two years of first getting a full licence, then another revoke would occur.
So they would need to drive like a saint and get past the 2 years first. After that they would have to make sure they didn't hit the magic 12 points whilst the original 6 were still active, otherwise a 6 months totting ban is likely.0 -
Ok thanks for that!
Well I rang the scrap yard and told them I wouldn't be collecting the car.
I have heard nothing from either the dvla about the car being scrapped (I scrapped a car before and they sent me a letter). The scrap yard told me I only got charged if I collected the car. So I hope that is correct!
We still have heard nothing from the police about it? Surely by now we should have heard something?0 -
They have up to 6 months to apply for a summons so could be a while yet .... which will probably for "driving other than in accordance with a licence" i.e unaccompanied. Was he displaying L plates ? .. if not that is another offence.
As far as relating to insurance were included ... you might be lucky, the ins co. may confirm that as a named driver 3rd party cover was in place, (despite the offence).0 -
I watch people do this all the time on that 'Cops' programme on ITV. Some of them do it again and again, and still only get a fine and a few more points on their 'licence' so I wouldn't worry too much from that perspective.0

He was convicted of lc20, £175 fine, £100 costs and 3 points. Didn't know anything about it...court date was 2 weeks ago. He got a letter few days ago from dvla to send his licence in so we had to ring up court etc and find out what had happened. Couldn't tell me what offence he had been convicted of though. Had to call dvla again. Paid fine (thank god for ppi reclaim!!!!), won't even get sent a reciept. Had sent Summons etc to a different number property. They said would have to make a statutory declaration and re set a court date but the fine would probably be worse so not a good idea!0

Anyone know what affect this could have on an application for naturalisation??0

So he wasn't charged with driving a car whilst uninsured? He got off lightly."You were only supposed to blow the bl**dy doors off!!"0

none. its a minor if stupid traffic offense. hence the small fine and only 3 points. you did say that the car had some serious problems maybe teaching a learner in an old banger is not very safe. and please try and cut the attitude re your husband he is human and he did something stupid.0

He obviously got convicted for driving otherwise than in accordance with his Driving Licence. That's the only offence other than driving without insurance that would be relevant. I'd say it's a mediocre motoring conviction as opposed to a minor one, and far from stupid. It could have been a lot worse. Still, we all make mistakes and life goes on!pauletruth wrote: »none. its a minor if stupid traffic offense. hence the small fine and only 3 points. you did say that the car had some serious problems maybe teaching a learner in an old banger is not very safe. and please try and cut the attitude re your husband he is human and he did something stupid.0
