Mondeo 2002 2.0 petrol major engine issue
Hi i am looking for some advice.
I have a 2002 ford mondeo 2.0. It was due for an oil change as the red oild light kept comming on.
I was driving home from work last Friday when a guy in front of me boke very suddenly, i hard to slam on the brake the brakes locked and i swerved to the side of the road,
luckly i was ok and i carried on driving, about 500 yards latr there was a rumbleing sound from the engine, i had to pull into the layby as the engine cut out.
I was not able to start the engine again and had to call out the RAC he thought it was the battery but i thought it was something more serious, i had to be towed home.
I think the engine has sized and either needs to be replaced or scrapped, i have uploaded a video onto youtube which i know does not give a macanics guide but im hoping someone will be able to
confirm if it needs replacing or scrapped or, maybe there is a lest drastic or cheaper way to repair the car
thanks in advance

It was due for an oil change as the red oild light kept comming on.
The red light is not a service indictor, nor an oil level indictor it is pressure indictor which normally comes on when you hve little or no oil.
The engine is probably seized but in the first instance put some oil in it and see if it will turn over. Even if the cr strts again you will probably have done some major damage so be prepared for it to conk out.
At that age I think I would just scrap it if it doesn't run.
Edit:- Having now watched the video the engine is not seized
Any petrol? Petrol getting to engine?
Then check for spark.0 -
Could it be the inertia fuel cut off switch needs resetting? Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0

Engine is not seized as it's turning over.
I'd go with the fuel cut-off switch too given the scenario. They are designed to cut out in the event of a crash but if the braking was heavy enough sometimes its not unknown. I think on the Mondeo it's behind the trim in the passenger footwell somewhere...
Have a look at this guide, it's actually for removal and re-fitting but it explains where the switch is and how to reset it. Its for a newer shape Mondeo to yours, but its exactly the same as my old Mk1 Mondeo was so i'd be surprised if they changed it for yours...but you never know!

If it was the cut out that would be a good result, but it would be a poor RAC man who missed it.0

clue
oil light never goes out on upload video0 -
The engine is clearly rotating but is either not getting fuel or has an ignition issue.
Does the mondeo have a timing belt? could it have jumped a tooth/snapped?
I'm guessing the RAC man would have spotted something like that.Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..0 -
thanks for the responses, the cam belt is in place and fine, as this was inspected by the rac guy when he looked at the engine.
My worry is because of the lack of oilwhen i was forced to break this may have swilled what little oil there was in the engine around causing vital parts to be exposed.0 -
Was the oil light on in these 500 yards ?Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0
