Savings was first to apply which at end said provisional accepted then at the end it asked ME if I wanted extra such as loan, card, bank and I picked the bank and card options. Went through bank and it said they send me forms, went through card and it say sorry no.

So why would savings say provisionally approved but bank didn't? Maybe avu already say no to me?

The savings account isnt credit checked, anyone can have one of those. You'll be sent some forms for the savings and bank account (I think you might end up only being offered the Basic or the Select Silver) You sign the forms then send them back, then AVU check your applications. At this point you can still be declined. If its OK, you'll be sent your welcome pack and your debit card(s)

This stuff stays on your file for 6 years from the IVA date, maybe HBOS dont go back as far as 5 years, but Natwests AVU seems to go through peoples history with a fine tooth comb. I really hope you get accepted for the account, let us know how you get on
Debt free and staying that way!

    Hi,

In July when HBOS gave me a full account RBS said no to basic account. I always meet AVU who say no. Once I got card on friday and letter on saturday saying decision changed and to return the card.

    tite or what.

I guess i'll see what they say but I think total decline for everything. Surely AVU only random select applications, they'd need a full team of hundreds to check each and every application made. no wonder we are bailing them out, they need to automate things like all other banks.

i let you all know when I know, thanks for helps.
  • Pre-Assessment/PAL is nothing to worry about -they're just records that change on a monthly basis, and tell the staff what you're entitled to based on your previous account conduct.

Credit cards are generally diffcult to get accepted for, and although you've probably been told that you qualify based on the information you've given, you will still be credit scored and your final eligiblity will be based on the outcome of that score.

The First Reserve is not credit scored, as it is a savings account. Yes, you do get a debit card, but you cannot set up Standing orders or direct debits from it. You also cannot have your salary paid into it.
Anything that I do say, is strictly my opinion :p

Thank you for this. so based on what i say above do you know if bank account will be flagged at the dreaded avu or do they only select some accounts?

Maybe if I have saver it will help them say yes to bank in a few month time?

Saving accounts like first reserve, esaver or isa accounts are not credit scored, hence these accounts don't improve credit ratings at all and don't appear on the credit file.

One one would assume, these accounts might improve internal score but it hasn't been the case for me. I have held Natwest's e-isa, first reserve, e-savings for long time along with their step account but I was always declined without a credit check for their credit cards despite having my salary paid in to step account for 2 years and running it perfectly.

Only when I opened their current plus account in January this year, it improved my internal score. And now I also have their platinum mastercard as well.

Another example, I kept over 10k worth of savings in Halifax web-saver but they didn't accept me for any of their credit products. Only when I opened Halifax reward account and ran it for few months, I was accepted for their clarity card.

More than likely - however there is no harm in asking your local branch if you are eligible for an upgrade. More than anything, as negative as it may sound, you won't be getting your hopes up over nothing.

Step account = no credit facilities attached, and that usually includes any other types of lending, such as credit cards. It's an instant "No".

Savings accounts with positive balances do increase your internal score, providing you've got a non-basic account.

When I worked in a branch, I would say there's a less than 1% chance of a credit card going through if you had a key account. So it's not impossible, just very, very, very rare!
Anything that I do say, is strictly my opinion :p
  • So based on my being refused for the current account, are you saying if I go into branch and ask about one they can avoid AVU or do branch apps still go to avu?

I suspect this one will also be declined, they always are with me

No, sorry I think you misunderstood me.

What I mean is, is that before you do an application, you can ask your local branch the likelihood of an application of going through.

Just ask them something like "Am I elegible for a credit card?" and they will tell you.

This just prevents you from going through the whole application just to be declined in the end.

Our applications go the Personal Lending Unit - I've got a feeling that's where they all go.

yes i got my account number after submitting the application- are you sure you weren't a bit too quick with the mouse and closed the window quickly after submitting?

also when did you apply? if it was friday or saturday it might not show online until after 2.30am on tuesday morning or later, if you app;ied thursday or earlier it probably should be showing online by now if they kept to the same timetable of my application.

Well, i got a form to fill in this morning, just my address ,income etc.. no mention of an account number or anything.. so looks like they will 'vet' me when they get the forms back lol still don't hold out much hope though...
