Oophs I deleted my last post I misread it lol

However the blue and purple card remain the same, but the basic account card will have a different design.

I dont work in a branch im sorry to say. I can only give you information on my own personal understanding. If I was you or anyone else in this thread affected by such changes maybe consider moving to Barclays they offer a great basic bank account.

Cheers me Dear - I do have a basic account with Barclays but moved to Natwest because the staff in my local branch were hideous. I have to say the staff in my local Natwest are fantastic which is why I will continue with them - on one occasion I was even offered a coffee!!!

Even with all the hoohaa at the moment with all the changes, I still think Natwest are really good, much better than A&L/Santander who I was with before. They've been very good to me, and my local branch staff are very friendly, and not pushy at all. There are worse banks out there!
Debt free and staying that way!

I agree - the staff in my local branch can't always help but they do seem to care. It means something.
  • If you read the bottom bit on the letter, it asks you to ring a number if restricting your card will badly affect you - ie, you live in a rural area and having access to your money will be limited further.

Call me a cynic, but I just hope that call is not used as an opportunity to upsell to a "basic" Select Silver.
  • I think they will keep you on the Basic account, but just give you a card with no restrictions.

If this is 'on demand' does in not just undermine the whole decision that's been made?

I guess if it was "on demand". I *hope* it is based on the customer's address, "needs" and distance from a Group ATM.

Incidently :T this was a "suggestion" I made in my very first post about the Natwest/RBS "change", before "sharp-practice" upgrade to "basic" Select Silver came to the fore.

I hope there is a sympathetic policy because I remain of the view that Natwest/RBS is hard to beat for most aspects of its service, including access to Group ATMs and the online service:). Excluding people with a "need" for Link access and reported "sharp practice" upgrades excepted:(.

What evidence is there of 'sharp practice'?
