Scottish Power additional charges

Options
Hi I am new to the site and looking for help please.

The issue that I have is that I owe Scottish Power £1164, but £557 of this is additional charges.

I have tried to get the additional charges reduced but they will not budge at all.

I was wondering if any one as been in the same situation and what they did or if anyone as any sugestions with how I can sort this matter out.

Thanks xx

    Additional charges for what?
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
  • For warrent fees and debt advisory charges. They have put them down as DOM fee and Add#93, plus the warrent fees. Love how they make it all so clear, not! xx

Never heard of 'debt advisory fees'. But if you refused to let them fit a PPM voluntarily and they had to obtain a warrant, then yes they can add those fees. What is a reasonable fee, I don't know.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
  • They could not fit one as I was moving address and was not going to be with them in the new property.
Just find it strange that there is 9 different charges when I have only ever had 2 visits.
I just really want to get this sorted asap as it is stoping me getting jobs that I have applied for!

    Thank you anyway xx

So are you paying off the £607 that is not in dispute?
If you already have a default recorded then it's rather late to be disputing the bill.

  • No there is nothing set up at this moment in time as one of the customer services advisor said I have to pay £500 to even get my case looked at, and I know that is not right.
Think I will have to speak to the CAB to see what they say. I have just received all the bills and paperwork that I asked for so that I could see where the charges have come from.
I am willing to pay for the warrent fees but I just do not understand all the debt advisory charges and charges for their time dealing with this matter. x
  • I assume Scottish Power see you as a bad payer. It normally takes quite some time to get to the stage of having visits from the supplier. As such, Scottish Power will treat you as someone who has not been cooperative and will not set you up a payment plan until you show willingness from your side by paying off a large part of the account.

Of course, you can dispute the debt or the way you have been dealt with by Scottish Power by following their complaints procedure to the letter which can be found at https://www.scottishpower.co.uk/complaints
They should provide you with an explanation of all the charges.

In the mean time, I'd pay off anything you can afford of the actual energy charges.

£23.50 pdv charge, £27.50 dca attendance fee (court), £190 warrant charge, £65 national grid TSE hire fee, (£200 dog handler fee if applicable), £40 lock smith fee all adds up
Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.
  • Just in case OP doesn't know, PDV= pre disconnection visit
DCA= debt collection agency i think
Not one hundred percent on TSE but i assume it's a National Grid engineer.

What do you mean 'if applicable'? You said you'd already been charged these fees, but then that a PPM hadn't been fitted, as you'd moved property? So the dog handler fee would only be added if you had a dog at the property and were still living there.
Those charges look fairly typical though (but what's 'TSE hire fee'?).
Much better and cheaper under these circumstances to allow voluntary fitment though.
