    are you kidding me ?!

It s a legal requirement for many jobs, including all security / door supervisors / cash in transit/ festival stweards etc etc etc

a fee is charged and its not just related to kids and vulnerable people.

    There are two
    a standard and an enhanced.

a fee is chargeable, and the police have very little to do with it, as it is outsourced.

needs to read up on it a little or even a lot before you make such .
backlogs are due to inefficiency in the system, people not filling in the forms correctly and seasonal demands eg new qualified and job transfer nurses and teachers not locksmiths...

    enough said indeed.

I never said it was only related to Vulnerable adults and kids did I ? Learn to read you please. I didn't touch on the security and legal industry.

But you'll never find a locksmith who is crb checked.

    Wanna bet ?

The only locksmith qualification that means anything is the MLA, Master Locksmiths Association, and you have to be CRB checked before they allow you on the course. Also you have to be sponsered by a reputable firm.

You obviously need to read up on crb's.
There are requirements that need to be met before a crb check can be done

The only requirements are that you have internet access, can prove that you are a UK resident and have a means of payment for the check.

Anyone over the age of 18 who meets these requirements can apply for a basic check and they are quick (usually take 10-12 days to receive the certificate), cheap (from about £25) and extremely easy to do online.

I have to keep an up to date copy of my record so apply for one every 6 months.

    No problem.
  • There is no official governing body for locksmiths within the UK. There are organisations such as the Master Locksmiths Association (MLA), the Institute of Certified Locksmiths (ICL) and the National Network of Approved Locksmiths (NNAL). I believe moves are being made to bring them all together to ensure locksmiths are suitably trained, qualified, background checked, placed on a national register etc. All of which can only be a good thing.

Like other tradesmen, locksmiths enter the homes of the elderly or vulnerable, the CRB check is there to try to ensure that those people are safe when a tradesman comes round to their house.

Was the locksmith a one man band or an employee of a bigger firm? Was he a member of one of the groups I mentioned above? If so then maybe you could contact them?
